Man City 4 - 0 Newcastle United - 19/08/13 - post-'match' reaction from page 63

Not sure what people were expecting today, but a bumming was always a strong chnace and City will hand out more of them with the players they have. Apart from being out classed we were a very poor defensive and offensive unit today. Throw in a load of poor discipline and it's worse. We should have kept our calm today. Mapou and Debuchy could have seen red.

As long as we stay up, Ashley couldn't give a toss. We're not going to go down, (I don't think anyway, the three that came up are going back down for me), Ashley will think that'll do. No investment needed in his eyes.

In spite of the typical wave of optimism an hour before kick off, I was expecting to be comfortably beaten. What we saw there was so, so, so much worse. It should've rightfully been 5, for a start (or 6, considering the Taylor handball penalty-claim, or 7 considering the Debuchy trip penalty-claim). The result genuinely flattered us.

I'm genuinely not quite sure what anyone was expecting here? Are Swansea shit because they lost 1-4 to Man Utd? No of course not. Judge the team after a few games not this one FFS.

I'm personally judging us on what I've watched over the last 12 months... I'm judging us on an array of increasingly more concerning performances as last season progressed, where we not only looked tactically inept, but also lacking in raw ability, discipline and effort in several areas of the pitch. I'm judging us on a manager who is unable to motivate the players, unable to pick a tactically coherent side, unable to make substitutions or effective changes to fix his shit-storm of increasingly-concerning initial mistakes... A manager who is unable to show a single ounce of positivity in his general outlook towards approaching a game, and, more pressingly, is unable to actually learn from any of the aforementioned issues and repeats them week-in, week-out. And, tonight, I'm judging us on our complete lack of progression over the summer; every single problem that was there when the final ball was kicked last season, remains.

Yes, we were playing Man City, but no that doesn't excuse ill-discipline, a lack of effort, poor organisation and an all-round gutless and spectacularly uninspiring performance from pretty much every player on the pitch. This was the first game of a new season and they should have went into the game looking to send a message to the fans; "we're as pissed off as you about last season, we're going to fight to improve it this year". Instead, they turned up, put in the same 90 minute "shift" that they put in consistently last season, and went down with a whimper. If you're not at least semi-concerned about that you need to open your eyes.

As much as I can, I'm trying to ignore last season and make judgements based on this season alone. Perhaps it's just my expectations of this game were for us to get trounced so I am not in the least bit surprised. Maybe i've just lowered my expectations in general. Anyway if we serve up the same type of performance next week I will be very concerned, yes. I just don't think it's fair to go over the top when it was a half with 10 men against a top side.

Swansea, blackpool, villa, hull, and even stoke........ all teams starting their season against one of the big 6 and all giving a better performance than us and actually threatening the opposition goal on occasion.

Yep. I saw ManU/Swansea, Palace/Spurs, Chelsea/Hull (well, a half of), our game and then obviously MotD. Ours was comfortably the worst performance by anyone this weekend and we're rightfully slap bang at the bottom.

What a depressing state of affairs. We have to buy, or we're down. Surely Ashley has to try and protect his investment, even just from a cold business point of view.

To think the positivity of two years ago has dissolved into this. Abject misery, no hope, no way out.

The only way things will improve is if Ashley is bought out.

We need journos, ex players, persons of interest, fans to highlight this in a mainstream way. Not boucootss, but some organised affair.

The bin dippers managed to oust their undesirables, and in comparison they were a dream. Surely we have enough disgruntled people to have some sort of coherent message sent to the maniacal despot running the place.

I'm tempted to start a kick starter account and see if we can't stump up the cash to buy the club.

Nothing better than a dolphin being raped by a whale sounding bin dipping cunt slagging you team off to get you behind them again. Even if what he was saying was true that fkn hideous laugh undermines everything he said.

I don't see much point in judging on this season alone, nothing has changed off the field so there's no clean slate.

I don't know what people are complaining about.

We lost 4-0 at City last season, they've spent £90m, we've spent nothing and they only won 4-0 this time.

If anything City should be the ones worried, and I think that showed as their supporters were totally silent all game, they knew it wasn't an improvement at all and they will struggle to compete for the title if they don't seriously improve.

Anyone still think Tiote can get back to his best?

No. He's a complete block-head. Thick as fuck, at all times... He'll occasionally do something encouraging where you think "Tiote is back!" then he'll shoot thirty yards over the bar from a throw in. In our own half.
