We're safe, don't want to qualify for the Europa League and won't pay a penny more than we have to. Any incoming player is seen as an investment and if the club don't believe there's "value" in the signing they'll not do it.

It may make business sense but it's utterly depressing as a supporter wanting the club to be the best they can be. Know your place - mediocrity.

Best scouting networks? Steady on.

We're extremely adept at identifying players that improve the squad. There are few clubs who have had as many "hits" as we have over the past two to three years.

It should be obvious to anyone, otherwise by rights we should have been relegated with a net spend like that.

Aye, we've nearly signed nothing but players that have improved us. You could argue Cissé is the odd one after being turboshit from his 15th game, but it's still harsh to call him a bad signing.

I really really REALLY can't believe this. Where's the ambition?

If Stoke goes down they'll do it the Portsmouth way...

That's some scary s***.

Even scarier for the mackems mind - they've spent over 90 million more than us and are still s****!

Exactly why this table means nowt the bottom 3, are just the clubs who have other many years had:

A stable core squad

Managers on long term contracts

Success in developing players, getting the benefits on the pitch and then selling on.

So the top or the bottom of that table is the place to be.

Are you for real - f***ing hell man

Surprised at Stoke being 4th.

Surprised at Stoke being 4th.

Pulis did spend a lot with next to no returns from sales, seems a bit of an excessive spend for where they are and the "quality" they produce

Doesn't our scouting network consist of 1 man looking for players in France who are cheap due to get out clauses and ending contracts?

We've made good, but fairly obvious signings pretty much all from 1 country. If it is one of the best scouting networks in the league then the rest are rubbish.

so obvious no one else picked up on these cheap good players. Then again the general stupidity of football clubs never fails to surprise

Bid rejected?

More here on Newcastle's pursuit of Benfica schemer Filip Djuricic here.

Portuguese newspaper Record is reporting that the Toon have had a €10million bid for the 22-year-old rejected.

The Serbian international cost the Portuguese giants €6million in the summer and has a €40million release clause, but has failed to settle at the club.

He was reportedly also disappointed to see his compatriot Nemanja Matic leave the club, when the midfielder joined Chelsea earlier this month.

apparently it comes from Benfica themselves so either its real, Ashley's ability to control the media is far greater than expected or benfica are lying badly to make themselves look better.

Benfica say they have rejected approach from Newcastle for Filip Djuricic. Not interested in selling. #SLB #NUFC

Baffling how everyone else seems to find buying players ok. Funny how it's possible when you want to and dont look in only one place.
