I don't think Sammy is cut out for this league. He showed a bit of a threat due to the momentum of breaking into the first team and the opposition defenders not really knowing what he was about.

 

He seems like a canny kid, I won't badmouth any Ameobi in a personal sense, I just think he's lacking pace and end product.

The lad needs a run of games, be it here or out on loan. To write him off at 22 is just feckin stupid. Peter Beardsley and Waddle would never have made  it in that case!

 

Of course but with our stratgy we're stuck in a rut. We have promising youngsters who we are too scared to play in first team and the only games they get is as a patch side in the early surrender rounds of cups. They should be out on loan developing as our academy and coaching is awful but we won't add to the squad so they get kept a hold of to make up the numbers. Then when the inevitable injuries hit and said youngsters short of game time and confidence are thrown in and don't perform, we're told they will be out on loan to develop and we'll have a better squad next year etc. Other than Cabaye, which was down to his own self determination, I can't think of one player who's truly improved under pardiola.

 

And Beardsley never made the grade here when he was young. Neither Shearer nor Carrick etc. We're awful with young players and the ones like Waddle and Gazza who we produce we sold way too early.

True, but both Waddle and Gazza wanted to leave - they knew there was no future under the board at that time(with a Yes-man manager in McFaul)....now where have we heard THAT scenario since..!!??

Beardsley made his name at Carlisle before going to Vancouver - it was Arthur Cox who brought him back in 1983 when he was 23. Don't forget that NUFC had an AWFUL reputation with young players, even playing the one and only Alan Shearer in GOAL when he went for a trial before joining Southampton...I believe McFool was in charge at the time....

The Shearer in goal thing is a bit of a myth, he actually put his hand up to go in goal as there had been a lack of 'keepers at the trials. He did it because he was eager to impress any which way he could. It was more our luck if you like or our lack of luck than any mistake on our behalf, that he didn't quite succeed in those trials.

 

Its still criminal, however, that a talent like him escaped our clutches and that we had to end up paying a then world record fee to bring him back home. Some of the best players from this region have enjoyed their best spells or most successful spells away from the North East. Anyway, Sammy? He's got a degree of talent, but nowhere near enough to establish himself as a PL first-team regular, certainly not for NUFC. None of the current crop do.

I know Ray Hankin (Ex Burnley and Leeds striker from the 70's) through work. Newcastle wanted him as a kid, but he said they had a rep for not playing youngsters, so he signed for Burnley. Was sub for them, as a 17 year old when we played them in the 74 Cup Final. Fancy that, eh? Playing regular first division football at that age!

“We got two in quickly, which was good,” Pardew told the Gazette. “And we now need to get a couple of strikers in.

 

“It’s a good start, but we’ve got to cover some areas, particularly scoring goals.

 

“A lot of clubs and agents are waiting to see how players fare in the World Cup.

Pardew would not be drawn on United’s targets. However, the club has a longstanding interest in Montpellier’s attacking midfielder Remy Cabella.

The 24-year-old is understood to be interested in a move to Newcastle, despite some strident criticism of the club from Montpellier’s outspoken president Louis Nicollin.

 

Meanwhile, the Premier League yesterday published its fixtures for the coming campaign.

 

United will play champions Manchester City on the opening weekend of the season.

 

However, Newcastle’s next encounter with one of last term’s top four isn’t until November 1, when Liverpool visit St James’s Park.

 

The first derby is not until December 20, when Sunderland are on Tyneside.
