John Carver was awful as well, talked a great game but was useless.

If by talking a great game you mean he sounded mentally disturbed beyond belief every time he opened his mouth.

Don't get the hate for McClaren, Carver or JFK, they all had the doylem about them. There's only one on that list that repulses me though.

McLaren would turn up to his post match interview after being thumped with that daft grin on his face.

Aye that used to infuriate me, but some folk have this kind of fixed grin that they lend to tragedy

I really disliked Steve. He was just so shit. And I found the grim a shit attempt at manipulation. He would act as if the bad results were a fluke and he had full confidence he could turn it around.

Pardew would look like death when on a bad run. Carver rattled.  Rafa would be calm but still serious.  All better than that daft grin.

Again, with these cunts that have been at Man Utd/Liverpool and won everything, they go to other clubs and have an air of pity about them. Nicky Butt, Bruce, McClaren, Souness...

"Why would this club expect to win every game, they arent a big club. They should be happy with having a serial winner try and show them what to do".

The managers who we have loved have had the opposite attitude, have ambition and belief in what you can achieve (Howe, Rafa, Keegan, SBR), so much so that in the cases of Keegan and Rafa they fell out with our own ownership over lack of ambition.

He signed some good players and restored the reserves. Yes he ruined us immediately with his "dads army" policy. However he had some shocking luck losing Shearer and Ferdinand for the season, and having to rely on a confidence shattered Tomasson and a lunatic Ketsbaia to lead an attack.

Bad appointment for us, but i think the hatred for him was slightly short sighted....certainly not up there with Carver and Bruce

He came out with the same sort of shite that Pardew did while he was at the club, yet somehow that's forgotten - including dedicating the FAC SF win to DH and Shepherd a few days after 'Toongate'.

Mind you, Bobby Robson called us all 'pricks' for criticising Mick Wadsworth, but he eventually created a good side, so that gets forgotten too :)

I was convinced that we were going to have a really good season under McClaren. He talked a good game in pre-season and we signed some really promising players to go with what we already had (Mitro, Thauvin, Mbemba and Wijnaldum).

I think based on that he was the worst premier league manager for me, should never have gone down with the players we had

I think what people say of Bruce is true of McClaren. Decent guy, competent coach, just massively out of his depth and utterly incapable of arresting the slide towards relegation which had been inevitable since the end of the 5th season. I seem to recall enjoying having someone who seemed to display a vague interest in tactics and playing people in the right position, etc, but ultimately he was nowhere near up to it. Not helped by hopeless squad management provoked by the ownership's policies.

Same. Had a decent start where we should have beaten Southampton opening day when they were in and around the top 6 at the time, and could have beaten Man Utd away the next week. Quickly became apparent that he was out of his depth though.

With McClaren, you could at least see what he was trying to do with regards to a tactical plan and playing a more expansive game through the midfield, the execution was just unbelievably poor and the squad was a disinterested rabble of self-serving mercenaries with hearts the size of peas. By all accounts a great coach but lacking the personality and clout as a manager to get the team to execute his plan well enough. I do think the whole "grin and say we were magnificent even when we've just been thumped" thing was him trying to protect his players, but it just got old very fast. He was shit but he wasn't a cunt like Bruce, just a nice bloke miles out of his depth who rightly wouldn't have had any other PL job at that point.

Aye, nailed it. Nut right about the first two games as well, there was some promise there. Evaporated seemingly in an instant though. The place was absolutely stinking again by the time Sheff Wed knocked us out of the cup at home.

Yeah, I remember being really encouraged after that draw against Southampton on the opening day, we looked good.

It was away from home we got exposed a lot, we were just so soft-centred and lacked any kind of authority or ability to physically impose ourselves onto a game. 7 goals in 15 away games under SM and miraculously we won two of them - a late smash and grab at Spurs and at Bournemouth where we scored early and Rob Elliot randomly turned into Lev Yashin for the day.

That's the perfect summation of McClaren, I remember sticking up for him a fair bit, as he seemed a decent bloke, and you could see what he was trying to implement, he was just incredibly poor at doing that, and ultimately he was just out of his depth. I also think towards the end you could visibly see the stress on his face, that it made me feel a little sorry for him.

Personally I don't include him at the same level as Bruce, Pardew and Carver, McClaren was a bit of a wet fart, where as the other three where full blown Nora virus, they all seemed vindictive and like they purposely chose to fight with the fans and showed them 0 respect, you didn't get that with Schteevve.
