I reckon he'd have had them out of trouble by the end of that lot. Normally sacking a manager gives the fans a lift visibly in their next home game, I can't see that being the case here. One of football's big problems seem to be the notion that past moments of glory should entitle you to take part going forward. The same with Rooney now and Wenger to some degree as well. There's also this strange idea that managers' are basically always mistreated when they're fired. It's the very nature of the job, very, very few of them are capable of improving their teams and clubs over an extended period of time. Clubs that choose to look elsewhere for progress, rather than stay with managers to be kind, hoping for things to turn around, shouldn't be criticized for it. They're cold-blooded businesses, there's no room for sentimentality or friendship if you want to keep moving. There are of course situations when patience run out too fast, but more often than not managers get sacked when all evidence points to them not being able to take the club forward. I think Ranieri has looked absolutely clueless this season. Add the sort of mystery surrounding their amazing form last season, and it's hard to see what ideas he wants to revert to, what in his methods is actually going to develop Leicester. Like Hull and Swansea they should look for a progressive manager who's capable of developing the squad and get them playing football that pays off long-term, and not be blinded by experience. I'm not usually one for allowing managers to get away with blaming the players, but these are clearly extraordinary circumstances. After winning the title there was always going to be a bit of after the Lord Mayor's show attitude among the squad, ally that to the defence ageing and losing Kante, and you could understand the come down. I suppose the new manager bounce might save them if the players now pull their finger out, but this squad will provide the same problems for the new manager a few months down the line. The transfer window is over and it sucks that players have too much power, but the owners were basically volunteering to be relegated if they kept Ranieri. Is there any more loyalty left in football? Well you could say it was harsh given the miracle he performed, but there's also living in the past. Clearly it's all gone wrong and you can either do nothing about it, or make a tough decision. Depends if you think Ranieri is a great manager. Letting Sir Bob go wan't the problem, getting the right replacement was. This was SO true - Shepherd lacked the intelligence and charm to persuade SBR that there was still an important role for him at the club and the first duty of this should have been to recruit his successor...we may even have got Mourinho then.. It's a shame but disgraceful? Nah. Are Leicester just supposed to accept relegation? Probably done this too late, he's clearly lost the players and a lot of Leicester fans wanted him gone. But I think a manager of Sir Bob's character and ability, would always maintain a top 6 side. As long as his health permitted we should've stuck with him. 15 odd years later i've realised how difficult it is for us to hire a manager of that quality. You let them ride it out long-term. Man Utd went a couple years finishing 3rd and not challenging in the CL but stuck with SAF. Finishing 4th, 3rd & 5th should've guaranteed Sir Bob years to rebuild. Unless you're a mega-club you just don't sack a manager of that ilk unless they've been given years to rebuild. I believe Arsene for example has gotten too long in the tooth and should move on as the fans have lost all hope. And he's almost built them into Super club territory. Certain managers have enough clout to remove these members from the squad and coaching staff. Funny thing is the senior players at Leicester - Vardy, Drinkwater, Schmeichel, Huth & Morgan. I don't feel sorry for Ranieri. He'll always be remembered for winning the league with Leicester. He'll also get a massive pay off to go with all the other millions he's made over the years.
