Your standing and history as a club won't attract the top footballers anymore. Ten Haag was right it did save your season, as it meant that you had two opportunities for champions league football at the start of the season; and if you hadn't won the cup, then your season would have been finished last Sunday. You still have a massive target to sin for despite your worst season in decades in terms of league form. All of this is true obviously. It would be beyond huge if we managed to win the Europa League. I'm not even thinking about that right now to be honest. Sociedad were shocking last night and we still couldn't manage to win. We know what Amorim means though in all fairness. He doesn't want these players giving themselves a pat on the back after struggling through a few knockout games to win a trophy when they've been dire all year. The full quote is: Quote "People look at this competition as the only competition that can save our season. I don't see it like that. Nothing can save our season. "In this club, you have to perform in every competition. I understand that it's really important that we want to win and go to the next stage. The season has been really tough in our position in the league. That's what I mean. "I don't look at things to save something. I just want to be better as a coach and for my team to perform better." tl;dr - there's nothing wrong with what he said. Their painful years have never been that painful as they’ve always still been around Europe or won a cup. (i landed on this by accident by the way) 11 year quote is impressive. Which part hasn't aged well though? Liverpool didn't win the league for 30 years. We've a long way to go before we're at that point, although it looks like it could be that and more at this point You said their years weren't that painful as they've been around Europe or won a cup. We're in Europe now and have won a cup for the last two seasons running? 19 points from our last 11 games and we'll still beat their lowest total in the PL. Easy. When Amorim says winning a cup despite an overall poor performance doesn't mean the season is saved, he's laughed at on here. You cannot win. Like with "We are the worst Man United team in history" it's more just the melodramatic and despairing way he phrases it, if he'd literally said "winning a cup despite an overall poor performance doesn't mean the season is saved" it wouldn't be as funny as "Nothing can save us. Our season is ruined and my disappointment is immeasurable". Maybe it's a lost in translation thing, but given how he sits on the touchline looking like he hates life maybe not. I guess it's the opposite of the chipper Steve Bruce style "Well, we just roll our sleeves up and go again, certainly can take some positives from that fourth abject and toothless defeat on the bounce, I'm confident I can turn it around"

lovejoy Posted Friday at 09:55 Share Posted Friday at 09:55 (edited) The desperation on here for Amorim to fail is a bit weird tbh. I agree there's absolutely nothing to suggest he'll turn it around, they're worse now if anything. is it funny? Yep. Do I hope it continues? Yep. But pulling up his every quote is a bit bizarre. It's not a desperation for Amorim specifically to fail, it's a desperation for us as a club to continue failing* *by failing I mean performing poorly in the league but continuing to add silverware. Kid Icarus Posted Friday at 10:42 Share Posted Friday at 10:42 (edited) Schadenfreude isn't weird, it's natural and cool. Man United ruined my childhood and the arrogant, Terry Christian types in its fanbase (not a sly dig Froggy) are the absolute worst whenever they're doing well. So I'll openly admit that I want to squeeze every drop out of them being shit for as long as I possibly can, because it's part of what being a football fan is all about. Cf Posted Friday at 12:01 Share Posted Friday at 12:01 "Nothing can save our season" vs "We want to finish the season on a high. Winning the EL and securing CL would be a great achievement. We want to finish with strong form in the league ready to give us the platform to once again challenge towards the top of the table once more." It's really not hard. TBF, I don’t particularly mind him. He seems nice enough. I don’t know the man. It’s not his fault and I do get it as they are one of the biggest clubs in the world. So they will get more air time. But I’m sick to death of listening to his depressing interviews on every podcast, sports radio show or sports channel. Followed by the pundits saying how shit his formation is, that it doesn’t work with the players they have and that he should change it. Usually with him saying he won’t change and then going off again about how shit they are It’s like groundhog day whenever Man U are mentioned. They’re fucking crap at the minute, let’s all enjoy it. But why not talk about other clubs a bit more. Or at least provide a bit more insight than what we are getting when they talk about Man U.
