Guest neesy111
Also we need to improve our support to the striker, this formation we play makes them look ridiculously isolated.

I was against having Van de Beek coming in because doesn’t look like he has adjusted to the league, but we are crying out for someone that is comfortable in possession that can advance the ball. We get him on loan with a defensive destroyer then a midfield three with Joelinton doesn’t look so bad on paper
Toughseason16
I'm intrigued at whether or not any new signings have had to agree to staying and playing in the Championship if relegated. Obviously need a quality squad if / when we are relegated.
Thiago
I don't know where it came from, but I saw mention that Wood was committed to staying regardless.

Thiago expect Wood to for obvious reasons, but, if a quality player signed - Carlos for example - for big bucks and massive wages, would he REALLY be expected to stay? On one hand, would our new owners as rich as they are, pay say £45m for allayed just for 4 months. Would be very odd would it not!
MarkyMark
Can't imagine they would have; there's no reason to insert it as a contract clause (by implication, they've agreed to be employed during that period by signing the contract). This why relegation release clauses / minimum fee release clauses exist; they offer a means for the player to end the contract or leave for a fixed fee in the event of relegation. LRD
Just looking at the player ages in summer. We have one of the oldest squads in the league. 33 Dubravka Fernandez 32 Clark Ritchie Gayle 31 Trippier Darlow 30 Dummett Schar Shelvey Wilson Hendrick Gillespie Wood Burn (if he joins) 28 Lascelles Manquillo Fraser Almiron (surprised, had a second look) 27 Hayden Krafth Murphy 25 Joelinton ASM Woodman 24 Lewis S. Longstaff Guimarães (when he joins) 22 Willock Average: 28.5 years
TRon
I think for this season we would put survival above all else, so experience is probably a plus. If we stay up, I would think we'd start looking to recruit some of the future wonder stars like Ekiteke to address the ageing squad issue.
Kid Icarus
So we're probably looking at: Dubravka Trippier - Schar - Burn - Targett Guimeraes - Shelvey Fraser - Joelinton - ASM Wood/Ekitike Dubravka Trippier - Schar - Burn - Targett Fraser - Guimeraes - Joelinton - ASM Wood - Ekitike Some big upgrades, with Shelvey and Fraser sticking out like sore thumbs. Looking at that I'm probably most pleased with the overhaul of the defence and the protection for the defence. Would have liked a more prolific striker, but I can't fault their intentions at all and still think the majority of the signings are solid to excellent on paper. Think it'll be Lascalles instead of Schar and like the first example but like a middle 3 with 2 advanced wider with Wood up front.
Tiresias
I wouldnt rule out a Dubravka Lascelles Schar Burn Trippier Bruno Big Joe/Shelvey Targett ASM Ekitike Wood Edited January 31, 2022 by Tiresias
alexf
I think Wood, hopefully, improves given more game time and training with our players and he and they get more familiar with eachother. If he doesn't then I hope atleast he helps fill the position sufficiently until Wilson is fit for the final run in.
Yorkie
Murphy > Trippier Ritchie > Targett Lascelles > Burn Longstaff > Bruno Gayle > Ekitike No one > Wood Canny. (aye I deliberately chose the worst existing in some cases)
Kid Icarus
What am I missing about Howe supposedly preferring Lascelles to Schar? They've both played the same amount of games I think. Edited January 31, 2022 by Kid Icarus

Joey47
I'd go with something like this: Wood ASM Ekitike Joelinton - Bruno- Willock Targett - Burn - Schar - Trippier Dubs
NUFC_Chris
I’m still pretty concerned about centre backs. Should’ve been our priority. We’ve definitely improved, so I’m not complaining, and I get that our main targets Carlos and Botman didn’t happen. I just pray Burn and Targett will be enough to stop us shipping so many goals. Lotus
Saw a stat where Schar didn’t do very well on aerial duels and didn’t play many progressive passes either (surprisingly). At least Lascelles is normally good in the air.
