Siem de Jong (still alive)

Recommended Posts

I suppose I use 'run' in a loose sense.  Whenever he comes on, he seems to bring players into the game and speed up our passing.  We don't seem to have anyone else who can do that.  Shelvey just slows the ball down while he tries another pointless Hollywood pass.

I'd have:

                                                Mitrovic

      Townsend                                                            Perez

                                    Tiote  de Jong  Sissoko/Wijnaldum

The good thing about signing Townsend was that we finally had a threat down the left. Sissoko/Janmaat was our only attacking plan and it was so predictable - Townsend added variety, yet we've hardly seen that arrangement. If Dummett is back and Sissoko HAS to play, play him down the right.

Basically, Disco's team

I'd like to see Sissoko in the middle as part of a midfield three to be honest and just tell him to run with it, Forrest Gump style, at the heart of their defence.

A midfield three has been our best option for absolutely ages IMO, no manager seems to fancy it though. Helps Shelvey as well.

I'd rather see Sissoko play his central box to box role and play Wijnaldum wide left or right opposite Perez or Townsend. Mitro up top. Siem de Jong playing #10 role and pair Sissoko with Shelvey or Tiote. If Sissoko is anywhere else then it's LB if Dummett isnt fit.

From the nufc.com match preview:

Siem De Jong has started just three PL games this season - victories against Liverpool (h) and Spurs (a) plus the home draw with Aston Villa.

Surely time to stick him in there?

Not surprising, the only player we have with a brain and positional sense.

He was only dropped because he missed that sitter v Villa. I thought that was poor management by Mcclaren, the guy was just rebuilding his confidence & came across as a bit of a leader on the field.

Fairly sure he'd assisted the first goal in that game with a corner aswell. One miss and dropped.

I know he has had loads in weird injuries, but now he is fit he has to start from me. He links the team together very well and playing off the front man he is very clever at stopping teams playing out through the DM easily. I might be wrong, but im sure we will get something from the game if he starts tomorrow. Also his leadership and organisation have seemed key in the games he has played

I really like this guy.  He's not quick but he has that Nolan-esque ability of just being where he needs to be without ever actually running anywhere.  Links up play intelligently, knows when to drop off and give an option and when to push and most importantly he actually seems to care.

I'd give him the no.10 spot for the rest of the season.  Townsend on the left, Mitro up top, Siem dictating play with Shelvey and Saivet behind him.  If we can find a heart for the tin man then Sissoko on the right, otherwise, fuck him and put someone else there.

De Jong and saivet need trying at least. Can't believe saivet can be that bad.

Completely agree with this. Usually i'd push for Tiote to play as he can be a good DM when he wants to be but I think the fact that he hasn't been able to get a new contract/transfer worth far more ££ p/w is now dictating how he performs.

There is nothing difficult in what a player like Kante does for Leicester. You need to be very fit with high intensity.

Kante is one of the players of the season but he doesn't exactly act the showman he just keeps a continual level of consistency and does his job very well, like quite a few other Leicester players this season, there application to their roles has been of the highest standard, probably why Ranieri has hardly messed with his side.

Saivet for all we know could be as good as Kante, he's been around as long and had a bigger reputation prior to Kante's current season.

Kante has come into a camp with a superb mentality, Saivet the opposite. But! Isn't it time individuals started rallying for an improvement in standards rather than falling in with the bad apples?

The forgotten man. Had to go back 5 pages to find the  thread about him. Would love to think Benitez can get him fit and we can get a good run of games out of him this coming season. Been very impressed with the way he links up our midfield and attacking play the few times I've actually seen him play for us and he's certainly a clever little player with a decent shot on him. Think he could do well next season if, big if I know, he can keep himself fit. Hopefully the new training facilities and having staff there who know what they're doing can help there.
