Still think he needs to start a couple of games to show what hes got, we've seen glimpses of what he can do, but hasn't had the chance, when the alternative is Atsu I think we can afford to give him a shot.

Not saying Atsu has been that bad this season hes done OK but a lot of the time he offers very little.

I don't particularly rate him tbh, but the point is that Atsu's not really doing anything and although he probably has a couple of games to sort it out, at some point we might need to freshen things up. He should be pushing for a start, and Murphy needs to start putting himself in contention as well. There should be plenty of competition for that position.

Having spent in the region of £18M on left wingers in the summer, I thinks it's safe to say Rafa doesn't rate him there. Is he better on the right?

Doesn't rate him could be a tad harsh. Maybe doesn't trust his ability to be available for enough games.

I just dont understand why hes not on the bench instead of Murphy.

He hasnt been injured for a few months now and Murphy is showing absolutly nothing imo.

It's a bit hard to in 5 minute cameos.

tbf aarons has shown more in his cameos this season.

Depends what you ignore and what you take. He did well against forest but the under 23's games have just been lazy inefecttive strolls which I'm sure won't help him with Rafa.

They should both be on the bench and getting more time though. Their pace is one of the easiest ways to help us get up the pitch in the second half but our subs are just so predictable - Centre midfielder change, Striker Change, Someone might get a five minute cameo. Its like they're decided before the game.

Amazing how overrated Aarons is among fans despite doing the sweet fuck all to be so highly rated. He must be struggling in the reserves at the moment if Rafa doesn't think he is good enough to get in the match day squad.

We do need a pre-season specialist since Vuckic left.

With the talk of Mbemba being left out last season because he couldn't follow instructions I wonder if it's a similar situation with Aarons. He's something of a flair player so I suppose it's possible that he's trying to be a bit too creative with his play and not sticking to the plan which you could imagine might put him out of favour with a manager like Rafa.

There certainly seems a different between how 'rated' Aarons is, by many fans, and how rated he is by his manager. I definitely rate him highly, based on what I have seen of him live (admittedly limited and mainly preseason). Not certain that he is being 'overrated' but then we would only know that if he had a consistent run in the first team. Bit like the seeming 'gone to shit' perspectives re Murphy. He also needs regular pitch time and, I suspect plenty of positive strokes from RB and crew.

He's scored against Man City, Spurs and Palace and he was fantastic in the first 60 minutes against Forest in the cup. So it's not based on 'f*** all', people just want to see one of our only talented youngsters given a chance after he's done pretty well in the past

I agree with this.

Before we got relegated Rafa started to use him, It was his unfortunate injury that kept him out of our championship squad which i guess potentially would have seen us not loan in Atsu, and his off field troubles with his well publicised night out brawl that has seen him go out of favour.  If he applies himself he could get back into this side, I don't see Atsu as a threat to any winger to think they couldnt take that spot.

Most of this was 3 years ago though. People are also forgetting that he didn't look great in the championship before his injury either.
