Interesting that they have decided not to go with the orange and green stripe down one side, which is obviously what made that kit so unique.

Aye I'm hoping it has a hook of some form, cos it went from a unique monstrosity to a rather generic looking throwback offering. I guess no matter what they're in a pickle given the sponsor will never reach the heights of the OG sponsor, and the asymmetrical positioning was what made that kit interesting.

 

Imagine making Sela (or any modern sponsor) the focal point in the same way.

The shirt was interesting because it’s so bad though, no? It’s not a design classic it’s notable because it’s really weird. 
 

I had Barnes 10 on the back, so I have a soft spot for it  But I didn’t think it had any significance for the history of the club.

I think it's just unique in terms that it's that bad its actually quite likeable in weird, roundabout sort of way. I think the adidas trefoil version next season of it could be a banger.

It was the placement of the Brown Ale logo which made it "different" to other kits at the time. Sure, the colour scheme itself was wild. But you don't see the sponsor's logo being part of a kit design nowadays. It's jus plastered on nowadays.

Since we know what's coming up this coming season, what are your hopes for a throwback kit for the following season?

 

Obviously, predicting the home's always going to be tricky. Either going new design or there'll be a dab of historical kits somewhere in it.

 

We'll probably still have a white/green kit as an away or 3rd kit no matter how much we hate it.

 

But which kit do you guys think adidas would remake? Let's just pick from our previous adidas made-kits. 

 

I'd choose this one for the colour scheme, black and blue and the collar. And seeing adidas seem to have a weird taste of going for 'not so obvious/famous' kits to remake, then I'd love to see this done again.

 

 

of course, if ever adidas want to go full on bananas with us, then I'd prefer this:

From memory (I don't have a photo of it to hand)...

 

• Blue shirt (exact shade I can't remember but KIs guess is close).
• Orange Sela logo.
• Trefoil.
• Crest in a shield.
• Orange stripes on shoulder. Green trim.

So yeah, that KI design is close. Might not be absolutely bang on, but close.

No doubt covered in previous posts but I've been a voyeur of this thread for some time and the nosey bastard that I am - what's your connection/inside scoop to all this? I don't doubt your wisdom  - I'm just intrigued by your Oracle status

We had some cracking keeper tops too. Shame adidas don't give a fuck about them anymore. Seahorse purple, Tyne bridge, the green one in the same sesaon, even the Hislop/Pav blue grey ones were great.

Was hoping we would get the nufc badge alongside the trefoil, I suppose that isn’t right for the 97 away shirt so hopefully we get some retro gear with it on instead. Can’t see why the 95/96 away wouldn’t get released this season, or maybe a long sleeved of the home.
