Hummel say "we do not wish to be visible", yet the logo's still there on the shirt, same size and position. When would we ever talk about Hummel? This is just a cynical marketing move. Paullow
Bruno, Pope, Trippier (probably), Schaar, and now Kuol - any other NUFC players that will likely be off to Qatar? It will be really interesting seeing Garang if he gets his chance in cameos.

Paullow
I know the location isn't the most popular, not just because of the obvious, but also that all the stadiums are so close together that it will feel totally different to a traditional World Cup, and it may well affect our momentum if we do well in the next 4/5/6 matches (or it could actually help us recover with our high intensity pressing), but that aside, I'm really looking forward to this starting 3 weeks on Sunday. My general interest in football is through the roof these days, I'm watching all sorts, and the option to watch up to 4 matches per day is very appealing at the moment, as I'm sure if will be to other Newcastle fans. The timing is also controversial, but it's actually worked out well, unintentionally. Had it have been in the summer, then it would have just been 1 year after Euro '2020' and that would have felt far too soon, and had it have been next summer, then again, only one year from Euro 2024, and likewise, so with Covid, the timing has actually worked out perfectly with an 18 month gap between 3 major international tournaments. Quite a strange feeling - it would be great for them personally if Botman, Joelinton, and Wilson all made their respective squads (along with Pope, Tripper, Schaar, Bruno, and now Kuol), and another bit of interest to matches from our perspective should they feature, but on the other hand, it would be more beneficial to NUFC if they were part of the squad that went out to Saudi instead. cubaricho
Is it NBC/Peacock for the WC coverage this year in the states? Could be worse I guess. But fuck me, I’m stoked for the World Cup.
Mike
Seems like it's Telemundo and Fox? I dunno. As long as I don't need cable to get the Spanish commentary, I'm set.

JNK
France lost Kanté, Pogba and possibly Varane. Argentina nearly losing Dybala and possibly Di Maria. Can't wait for this World cup, the "hexa" (6th title) was never that close

Some states still have "sodomy" laws on the books that would make gay sex illegal, but they are not enforced. Gay rights in general vary widely state by state. My own state restricts state funded travel and spending to other states that have what it deems "hateful legislation" - basically interstate sanctions which is kind of wild to think about. They don't mean much obviously and exceptions are routine, but it shows you how much the environment depends on what state you are in, and often what city. Beth
I see the 2026 WC will have 16 groups of three teams each. So the team that has to play in the first two games could be shafted by collusion if the final game would see both teams playing it going through with a certain outcome. May as well just call the qualifiers the finals at this point. The top two go into a global draw and a knockout to the final. We'll be playing them in fifty-nine and a half different countries by 2030 anyway so why not. The football authorities find ever more inventive ways to fuck up something that's worked great for generations. Speaking of which FA Cup starts soon. Might have been the only time so guessing the fact it was gone by 86 suggests it was shit.

Had a look at this recently, in 1982 the second round did have groups of 3 but it was only the side finishing 1st that went through so no issues there Having groups of 3 with top two going through is problematic

Was it Sweden and Denmark that played out a 2-2 draw to knock out Italy one year? With this format the team who are top in the last game are already guaranteed to go through so winning is more an incentive to top the group, without the jeopardy of being knocked out. In a group of 4 the final matches are played at the same time so it reduces potential collusion if not completely remove it
