Sima
Looks like Qatar are paying thousands of people to pose as fans of each country. Absolutely tragic.
Paullow
Just noticed this separate section . I'm definitely in full on World Cup mode now like. I'll be binging on so many preview and magazine type shows this coming week at work. It would have been better in a bigger country, a more traditional football one, and one less controversial, for a better fan experience for those attending, but as long as the matches are shown on TV, at a convenient time, and there's good football and footballers on display, and the added bonus of NUFC interest, then that's enough for me. It's going to be fantastic just sitting back and watching two, three, maybe even four matches a day, especially when current interest in general football is through the roof, like I'm sure it will be for most Newcastle fans. Wales vs USA a week tomorrow (7pm) already looks an absolutely massive match in the context of the group.

Anderson
Massive positive that we've only got 5 players (one who'll be home fairly sharpish and 2 others who'll see very little game time) when you look at how many those around us have heading off. Na, I purposely left him out because then I'd have to include the likes of Hannibal, Alex Telles and loads of other on loan players who currently aren't too relevant to their parent club, plus he isn't officially our player yet. It was mainly just to show how many current players other teams are losing and the impact it might have on their respective clubs. He will definitely be an added interest to Newcastle fans though, and will be great to see him feature against the likes of France.

54
Anyone else, still feeling a bit weird about this tournament, and not yet getting the buzz for it? Plus it isn't even a year and a half since the Euros concluded. Tbh, with a pessimistic hat on, some days I wake up feeling like I've reached a saturation point with football altogether. gbandit
Got no buzz at all but it will kick in once the football starts. Love watching new names come out of this tournament and will enjoy watching our lads play. All the other stuff is going to be massively grim though. Once people start drinking there I’m sure things will kick off in a horrible fashion. Everyone loves talking about how inclusive football is and how it’s for everyone but this World Cup couldn’t really oppose that sentiment more. They were named hosts it in an extremely corrupt fashion, they’ve killed people in large numbers to make it happen, they don’t want inclusivity and diversity and if you’re going to host a ‘world cup’ you need to buy into letting the world come to you in all its forms rather than dictating it the other way round. Otherwise, fuck off wanting to host it
ponsaelius
To be honest I had similar feelings in the build up to Russia World Cup (obvious reasons) and again to the Euros last year (COVID stuff, being hosted all over Europe) but once they got started the football was great in both tournaments so you quickly forgot. It will be interesting to see if that happens again - because there's far more issues this time than before. While I far prefer NUFC to England I do think international tournaments are better than club football. Love the concentrated nature of the games and the more chaotic nature of how the teams are assembled. It is an antidote to the money dominated nature of club football and squad building - which is ironic considering all the other issues with how international football is organised.
