Because there has never been a season for any team like this. You can’t seriously blame the manager

Surely the manager only decides based on feedback from the medical team and player anyway?  Such an odd thing to try and blame him for.

Don't be daft, he kicks players crutches away, pulls them out of their iron lungs and forces them on to the pitch.

Another piece of shit injury news but it's become the norm this season. Feel sorry for the bloke as he's only got so many seasons left in him and to lose the chance to play for an extended time is obviously pretty brutal, hope he's on the mend soon and can pick things up when he's fit again.

To put any blame on Howe for a perfectly fit player landing awkwardly and pulling a ligament is just ridiculous though. There are some perfectly valid questions and criticisms that could be levelled at Howe for this season but a CB doing his acl isn't one of them

I’m not sensitive, I’m quite relaxed. Had an ace weekend with my lad. Just think some people find an excuse to blame the manager for any little reason. It’s tedious. Love you though.

I didn’t blame him.

let’s disregard Wilson for a minute because he’s the injury prone Pele and he has been that way most of his career.

we have an entire team dedicated to these things. Eddie isn’t a doctor or a physio. It’s up to the players to be very honest about their injury situation and the medical staff to not clear them until they are sure they have made a full recovery. I’d be more inclined to think it’s on the players or the medical staff.

it’s not like Eddie is coming in and telling players to play before they are ready? More likely players who want to be back on the pitch asap so they say they are 100% when they know they are only 90%. Pretty common thing across all sports.

IF you want to blame Eddie for this you could point at him not rotating the squad (which he can’t due to lack of quality). You could mention our high intensity pressing style. Even our intense pre-seasons and potential overtraining. But there are tons of teams in the top leagues who do all of the above and haven’t been hit with an injury crisis of biblical proportions like we have..

I’ve not blamed him for the ACL relax man.

I do think Howe creates a culture where players really push themselves in all aspects.  The worst aspects of that are encouraging players to come back too early heightening their risk of reinjury.  Or playing players whilst they are physically burnt out and struggling again leading to injury.  Running on an already ruptured ACL is whatever

They actually had him go back out there and try to run off a serious ACL injury

Guy named Philip Rivers played an entire game of American football with a torn ACL.

You don't know it's torn for sure until you get a scan.

I remember that game, hated that Chargers team and that Patriots team

Not the best example to support sending Lascelles back out there, mind you.

Rivers did his ACL against the Colts the week before and was pulled from the game, they won with the backup.

He went out and played on what they all knew was a torn ACL the following week, after he'd had scans and they all knew what they were dealing with.

Look, I agree if you have a scan and you have a torn ACL you sit your ass down and get yourself mentally prepared for surgery. If a stability test on the pitch isn't clear on weather you have torn a tendon then trying it out makes sense to me.

That said, this sure sucks.

Maybe read my post again?

“I didn’t blame him, but he creates a culture”

I want to keep this respectful. I think you totally missed the point of my post.

All love. We can agree to disagree.

Rivers played QB though. Same position i played in highschool. It’s a 3-6 step drop back. Most snaps are in shotgun formation meaning you just stand still, get the ball and throw it. Almost 0 stress on your lower body.Totally doable with a torn ACL. Nothing like running up and down a pitch for 90 mins.

Quarterbacks aren't really running around jumping though, especially a pocket passer like Rivers. If he's making a cut during a game something has already gone horribly wrong.

I understand but we were discussing weather he should have been testing his knee with a jog, not if he should have been sent back on.

ahh ok. I was too lazy to read the previous posts and just wanted to chime in like an idiot with no context of what was actually being discussed.

it’s hard sometimes with a thread that has tons of pages to pick up what the point of contention is.

Without trying to compare myself to the man mountain that is Big Jamaal. When I did my ACL. I walked off unaided and was trying to loosen up on the sidelines to come back on.

After that. I had it checked by 3 physios/specialists who all said structurally it felt intact and there wasn’t loads of movement in the knee so probably all fine, maybe LCL at worst. Had an MRI, complete mess. 3 ligaments and a tendon. ACL completely ruptured.

TL;DR - not everyone is the same with injuries. Lascelles is a leader and probably felt like he might be able to continue. Don’t think you can blame the medical team (for once).

Stuart Pearce once broke his leg and genuinely wanted to keep playing, even though he knew it was broken.

But he was unhinged. In a good way.

And of course Man City's GK Bert Trautman famously played half an FA Cup final with a fucking broken neck. You can't make some blanket claim that injuries will always be easy to pick up and that you cannot carry on.

That's because we took so many points until mid december. After that we've had a form that equates to around 15th place if not worse.

Since the Pope injury we've got the 13th best form, but only 6 points fewer than the 6th most in form team and only 4 fewer than Man Utd.

Where are Man Utd in the table since then ?

Interesting that the 4 sides most likely to battle for the last European places are all clustered together there with us in the table.
