joeyt
We were absolutely desperate for a strong, streetwise defender not a 20 year old who is poor in the air with no top league experience
TRon
Colo's been better this season Tells you all you need to know about our recruitment success over the last few years.
Varadi
Clearly not comfortable playing on the left side. Got rattled early on and didn't recover. Horrible performance.
joeyt
Wasn't comfortable on the right side against Sunderland either

KaKa
Clearly way off the pace after being out injured for that period of time. Terrible situation for him.
AyeDubbleYoo
He looked nervous in possession but Taylor was much, much worse defensively.
geordiedean
This guy has been a catastrophe last 2 games, from actually making a backwards headed flick on to Defoe last week rather than head it over the bar to this weeks Sunday league esque shower of shit. It's just abysmal man the standard of people we have in the squad. These players are as thick as mince and can't do the basic simple things like pass or defend properly I can remember times when the likes of Aaron Hughes and Andy o Brien would be crucified, but Jesus they are like baresi and costacurta compared to the wankers we have in defence at the moment
The College Dropout
Been a poor signing. Not what we needed at all.

Figures 1-0 Football
Been a poor signing. Not what we needed at all. Aye, we didn't need a CB at all like. Any CB who is even slightly more talented than the ones we have (which Mbemba definitely is) was needed. Lets not forget last season we were playing Taylor and Williamson. Mbemba is really not as shit as some make out, playing alongside Taylor would make Pique look woeful. The very few times he has been alongside Lascelles he has looked quite solid, he wasn't too bad alongside Coloccini. Even on Saturday, he made more last ditch tackles and blocks than anyone else. Without him in the side we'd have lost by 5 or 6.
Hughesy
I like Mbemba and think there's potentially a good defender in there somewhere - he's been poor since he came back from injury though.
Shak
If we were going to just sign one defender then no, this fella shouldn't have been who we went for. Had we gotten rid of our joke of a captain and signed a tall, imposing CB to partner Mbemba he'd have been a very nice addition. Was cheaper to extend Colo though, so instead we went into the season with two short CBs. Basic story of our squad. We just buy players we think might be good. There's no plan for how they might complement the other players they'll be playing alongside, no attempt to build a team that might actually work. Just buying assets in the hope that we can sell them on later for a profit. God we deserve to go down so much.

Just buying assets in the hope that we can sell them on later for a profit. God we deserve to go down so much. This basically. I wouldn't call him a poor signing, I would imagine he was bought to replace Colo. Then we changed our minds and thought, let's have a go with two small cb's and save money on buying the commanding cb we needed. I wouldn't be surprised if we look a lot better even if you stuck Mbemba next Lascelles. Still not ideal but at least they would compliment each other. The College Dropout
We needed a strong defender, good in the air, pref with good experience as a CB. If we only got 1, he needed to be that mould. Mbemba is not that man. He hasn't improved us defensively at all. Coloccini has been better than him this season which is damning and embarrassing. The College Dropout
For me - you have to be an exceptional player to be a CB who is not very good in the air and be worth a damn.
Kanj
All the stuff he looked good at prior (strong sliding tackles, relatively good passing, pace/recovery, calm in possession) are all things I can't say he's been able to execute since coming back from injury. He's potentially a great player, but needs time.
STM
If he stays, he should play right back next year. His attributes are more suited there imo.

Guest neesy111
Nah they're not like. What a fantastic contribution. Your's isnt fantastic in the 1st place. You don't say what attributes would make suitable for a RB, as I'm wondering what they are.
STM
I suppose it depends on whether you rate him. If you don't, then it's debate over. If you do, then you have accept he is too small and inexperienced to play centre back. Lascelles can get away with it because he has size. I'd say Mbemba is positive on the ball, has decent pace and has the potential to defend properly. Therefore... right back. There's your post Neesy, now go fuck yourself. Tooj
I don't think Mbemba is that small, looks around six foot to me. Plus you can't say that he's too inexperienced to play centre back, if that was your attitude then there would be no centre backs coming through in world football. AY
For me - you have to be an exceptional player to be a CB who is not very good in the air and be worth a damn. There are a lot of great centrebacks who are not excellent in the air and are still top class defenders. Mbemba has the physical side and makes a lot of great tackles. IMO he has a bright future. People tend to forget how shit our back 4 is and how much it has changed during this season.

Hope he stays and we get a season in the Championship for him to develop, might do him the world of good.
