Guest neesy111
I thought he worked his socks off, particularly 1st half. Got to remember the chance he missed came from his pressure on the CB.
Newcastle Fan
He's not a number 9, he can play behind an actual striker and would do great.
triggs
He's not a number 9, he can play behind an actual striker and would do great. Behind? The best thing about him is making runs on the shoulder of the last defender, not exactly a link man

TRon
Really bad miss. Not a lot else to say about his match, because that miss defined it. Those are the sort of misses which usually makes me write off a striker, but Ian Holloway did say in the studio that his finishing is usually excellent, and he should know, so I'm going to hope this was just one of those days. Tubestationatmidnight
Ian Holloway knows fuck all about fuck all mind. He also said de jongs leg breaker on Ben arfa was fine
TRon
Ian Holloway knows fuck all about fuck all mind. He also said de jongs leg breaker on Ben arfa was fine Maybe. But I've seen some smart finishes for Gayle in the past so hope this was just a one off.
Guest neesy111
Writing a striker off for 1 missed chance. Unreal. I've seen Shearer miss an open goal before ffs.

jimmymag
Punting it 60 yds on a regular basis to this short arsed fucker isn't really playing to his strengths, is it?
Robster
Writing a striker off for 1 missed chance. Unreal. I've seen Shearer miss an open goal before ffs. Let alone missing a last minute penalty against Sunderland resulting in a defeat.

That being the case we were playing the wrong centre forward like.

We weren't punting the ball 60 yards to him today though, our football was good enough in the first half to have won two games comfortably.
Disco
A championship number 9 is occasionally going to miss sitters. That's where we are in life unfortunately. As long as he doesn't shy away and let it effect him he'll be fine.

TheInfiniteOdyssey
I like him and this formation isn't doing him any favours. Terrible, inexcusable miss today though.

mrmojorisin75
i'm still somewhat taken aback at his lack of pace relatively speaking, thought he'd be leaving championship defenders in his dust but he seems really laboured to me and therefore doesn't offer enough threat in behind, yedlin has the sort of pace i thought we were going to get from gayle
Figures 1-0 Football
He would have put the game to bed if he had scored, we were well on top and Villa were all over the place.
AyeDubbleYoo
I assume Rafa knows he won't be involved much and is prepared to accept that because he will finish a chance every so often. I can't believe this is a surprise to the manager, he must be happy with it for his own reasons.

My biggest concern with any striker is his finishing, and that's how I'll judge Gayle. He was awful in this department yesterday, but that was one game and every striker will miss chances at some point. Let's say if we set the bar with Mitrovic at one end and Defoe at the other, then Gayle is somewhere in between for now.
wyn davies
still not there is he? should of had at least one, hope he's not one of the guys who thinks "I've scored, job done ,that's my lot for tonight"
