OpenC
Yeah, Sunday leagues are becoming a bit of a thing of the past unfortunately. The annual charity tournament at Berwick started last night if anybody wants a bit of a different fix between now and July. It's just a little pitch and there is absolutely no guarantee of any quality (although some teams in the past have consisted entirely of Northern League standard players) but it's a unique venue under the town walls, and Berwick is a canny day out anyway. Can't remember what times the kickoffs are but I'm pretty sure the games are Tuesday and Thursday evenings, and two games on a Saturday. OpenC
Just a reminder: On 12/05/2024 at 06:55, OpenC said: This seems the most appropriate place to post it; not sure if people are already generally aware but this summer's Berwick Charities Cup now well underway. I make no claim about the standard of the football since a lot of beer appears to be involved but plenty of players of reasonable nonleague standard playing and the ground (The Stanks) beautifully nestled into Berwick Town Walls, it's a pretty unique experience Matches on Tuesday Thursday and Saturday until the end of July. Details on Facebook, they apparently kick off seven on weekdays and half six Saturdays (also four on Saturdays if there are two games). Presumably for a good cause although I haven't looked. Worth a look if you're in the area or fancy a day out topped off with a very different football day. I'll post some more pictures in the photo thread later but a couple here to demonstrate the feel of the place

Crook and District League in Durham went the same way last year, had 30 odd teams once upon a time, when it folded at the end of last season I think there were only 5 or 6 left It is mate’ I blame the useless young’uns - when we were younger we’d still turn up even if out all day Saturday and night and still bladdeted! Softies!

Thorpinho Posted Saturday at 07:16 Share Posted Saturday at 07:16 Wasn’t sure where to post this or if there is a different thread (sorry if so)…does anyone on here know much about junior football (7/8 age group) in Newcastle? Kid is getting into it now but I don’t really know the best place to take him, and looking for a team or club that does good coaching around Heaton or similar areas. He goes to one group but it’s not a team and they are just left to run around without much skill development. Any recommendations much appreciated! I watched a couple of games, as it happens. Good set up and rep https://heatonhawks.co.uk/

Second what Groundhog said about Heaton Hawks, always had a good rep when I used to coach, focus on equal playing time etc... If you can get around to a few sessions (don't think they're called trials anymore!) I'd recommend doing that to see where he's comfortable, at that age if you can get him playing somewhere with his mates and that doesn't treat U8s like its the Premier League (talking about both coaches and other parents there!) you're onto a winner
Paullow Posted yesterday at 21:12 Share Posted yesterday at 21:12 I was thinking of going to this with Wednesday being one of my office days, but completely forgot, but Stan have beaten Morpeth on pens (after a 0-0 draw) to win the Senior Cup. Fak Posted yesterday at 21:15 Share Posted yesterday at 21:15 Good to see Heaton win the Newcastle Flooring Senior Cup. Their Mexican striker could be heard chanting underlay underlay in the changing rooms at full time.
UncleBingo Posted yesterday at 21:27 Share Posted yesterday at 21:27 Nearly 4000 there tonight, about 2/3 of them supporting Morpeth.Thought Stan deserved the win, it definitely didn't look like there's a division between the two sides. Could get used to this winning trophies malarkey.

GeordieDazzler
Class result for the Stan, has been a a great couple of seasons. Looking forward to the open top bus down Chillingham Road.
Benwell Lad
The rise of the Stan from Alliance to the NPL and also becoming arguably the "coolest" non league team in the region (they certainly sell the best beer) has been brilliant.
Paullow
Leagues for steps 3-6 confirmed for next season Step 3 Hebburn,Morpeth, Stockton and then Whitby and Workington if you want to include them. All 5 would have been bolded in the Sunday Sun back in the day (not seen that paper for about 20 years), although Workington is obviously a long way away for most in the North East Step 4 A shame Dunston just fell short, but Ashington, Bishops, Blyth S, Blyth T, Consett, Dunston, Heaton, Newton A and Redcar all in the same league will be great for travel and transport and getting a few more on the gate. 9 out of 22 is incredible. I was browsing on my phone earlier and had to do a 2nd take as I thought it said Shildon instead on Silsden. I see Brighouse must have had a reprieve as they were meant to get relegated. 54
Have Blyth S and Blyth Town ever been in the same league before? I'm guessing Blyth Town have always been in Spartans shadow and several divisions back?
Paullow
Step 5 Just 20 teams in this league next season with 2 going up and none coming down from the NPL East. Horden and Thornaby both promoted. Hopefully Blue Star can go one step further this season as they do look well placed to go higher up the pyramid. Step 6 Durham United and AFC Newbiggin making the step up from the Wearside and Alliance league respectively. I believe CLS Utd are, or were, changing their name to Park View. A reprieve for Grangetown as well, Bedlington presumably playing in the Alliance next season.

Town were just formed in 1995, but there was talk about it becoming a reserve side for Spartans, which led to a breakaway Blyth AFC side, who initially did well in the Northern League, but then folded, and the original club were in the Northern Alliance third tier (step 9) in 2018, so they have now had 5 promotions in the past 8 seasons to get up to step 4, Spartans obviously having back to back relegations to meet them there. https://www.fchd.info/BLYTHT.HTM
Big Geordie
I think Bedlington are having some arguements with NCC over Doctor Pit (their home ground) which has probably had an affect on them, last season. Mind, they've also had Reform in the ground (sponsorship), so they can get fucked with that. I also hope Blyth Spartans review their admission prices after relegation or I may feel more inclined to go to Woodhorn Lane.
