You didn't read it all clearly.

I've pretty much word for word said the same.

Might just be the wording of your first sentence which threw me then. I think outperformed is subjective for the reasons I gave.

He´s been great! Used to think he was beyond hopeless. Another Howe MasterClass in coaching. Well done to the lad!

Howe deserves massive credit in believing in him tbf. He obviously saw his raw attributes and has worked on getting him to deliver on those. He's had a couple of cracking long range shots with his left foot which have rattled the woodwork in recent games. Didn't even realise he had that in his locker until this season.

I'd be very excited to see how Howe could develop a younger player with a similar profile to Murphy. Seems like the ideal winger profile to compliment Isak/Gordon and for how he wants to play.

Let's face it, whether you rate him as a player or not, everyone loves Jacob Murphy.

When he retires we should hire him to the important backroom position of Head of Being Jacob Murphy.

So how long does Murphy have to play like this before we can admit he might not actually be that bad?

He’s never been that bad, he’s just not of the quality that some of our fans would like to see out wide. When we are not playing well he tends to take a lot of the criticism. Could he be upgraded? Absolutely, but im not sure it’s a necessity right now.

Hes the type of player that Howe gets a lot from, although he is limited in some aspects of his game he can be utilised in specific manners that emphasise his good attributes. Just like Howe did with Almiron in the ultra press of 22/23.

I think it will fall back to how long can he keep getting juice out of Murphy (pun intended) and having Burn playing out of his skin. Schar is slowing a bit. But again, he has gone up a level under Howe. Along with other fringe players like Krafth who come in and never seem to let him down.

It just doesn’t feel sustainable and moving forward. Players like Burn, Schar and Murphy will be better as rotation options. With higher quality and younger players coming in.

I’m not even trying to diminish their efforts. They’ve been amazing for a lot of the time since Howe arrived. But I just think that is the reality of it.

I agree with you, and it is the reality. Murphy’s current form isn’t likely to be sustainable just as Miggys in 22/23 was never going to be. Murphy obviously isn’t ideal long term for a CL chasing side, but as Howe has proved a few times now he can squeeze enough % out of more limited players by keeping them in the team week in week out and reap the rewards. I think Murphy will be fine for the rest of season, even if his numbers do drop off some.

In the summer we will address the RW I’m fairly certain, but I wouldn’t be so sure whoever is signed will displace Murphy instantly and come straight into the side. The under lying point I’m making falls back to the tired PSR conversation as always.

I’ve just seen his ball for Isak’s second goal for the first time. 🔥

Having seen him for a few years now, I genuinely wouldn’t have thought he had that in him but his combination play with Isak is exceptional and shows a lot of intelligence. Long may it continue.

Even the shimmy to get past his man before making the pass was great. Everything about the goal was exceptional.
