AJ9 Posted yesterday at 00:38 Share Posted yesterday at 00:38 He’s fucking class. I used to hate seeing him play, thought he was absolutely fucking useless after some terrible performances, but good god, he’s a fucking player and a great personality
Conjo Posted yesterday at 00:53 Share Posted yesterday at 00:53 It's great to see him play these days. Still remember when he first joined, he looked so nervous/insecure. He's always had the talent and physicality to make it, which I assume is what convinced Rafa to commit such a big percentage of the transfer budget on him at the time. Like with Longstaff, Bruce completely ruined him. Howe should take a lot of credit for building these guys back up again.

Ellis H Posted yesterday at 01:01 Share Posted yesterday at 01:01 No intended hate towards Almiron but the more Murphy plays the worse Almiron looks in hindsight. It feels like Murphy offers more offensively in 1 game than Almiron does/did in 20. Overall, It’s likely Howe has just told him to keep it simple and try to find Isak whenever possible. It was him who passed it to Isak for the first goal tonight but probably won’t get the assist.
Emotic Posted yesterday at 03:58 Share Posted yesterday at 03:58 It's good to have a player who is (somewhat) comfortably two-footed on the wing. Right now we have Gordon cutting in on the left flank; and then Murphy playing a proper outside right, but as seen yesterday, still has the ability to cut in and get a shot off with his left foot if circumstances permit. This sort of unpredictability makes it so hard to defend against, unlike an Almiron, who you know will always cut in. Even Mbuemo will cut in if given the chance, although he's objectively a much sharper player than Miggy. Fair play to the coaching staff for teaching Murph to add more dimensionality to his attacking play. He seems so much more confident nowadays. Really struggling to see who we could reasonably buy who'd be an obvious improvement.
La Parka Posted yesterday at 07:21 Share Posted yesterday at 07:21 He is a beast. His pace and directness is refreshing. The minute he gets it he's beating his man and putting it in dangerous positions. Keep it up Murphy lad.

People forget Murphy is a two way player tactically now as well - plays the RWB role quite well now too in away games Guys always had the raw talent but is the kind of player that works well under a 1 v 1 coach which Eddie is

First time in a while I wasn't annoyed when the ball went wide right. He offered us some real balance and width, and he was playing in some pearler crosses from the right even if they didn't always find their man. He was a menace. Unbelievable Posted yesterday at 09:05 Share Posted yesterday at 09:05 His resurgence, and it’s been going for a long time now so can’t really call it a purple patch anymore, for me means that we may need to be looking for a young understudy with massive potential for our right wing, who is ready to learn and take over in a year or so, as opposed to a purple who pushes Murphy straight into a reserve role. Similar to the other positions of need, which are GK and RCB. Probably a lot more achievable from a PSR perspective to try to get 3 players in the 20-30m bracket than to be looking at the 50+ market for those positions, especially the RW one where suitable players are thin on the ground and likely to cost a fortune. AyeDubbleYoo Posted yesterday at 09:07 Share Posted yesterday at 09:07 Almost wish he could help Longstaff a bit with mentality etc. I’d have said both were complete write-offs but only Murphy has managed to raise his level.

I’m still wanting Mbeumo. He’d be a huge shot in the arm for the first 11 and could be huge in the charge towards the finish line and next season. Dibling is the long term solution but it’s whether we want a project player or instantaneous first team impact. I reckon Eddie has the patience for the latter. Presuming both Mbeumo and Dibling are double cup tied however for this season.

Think this is all really accurate, wise stuff but at the same time signing someone with Mbeumo's output would legitimately transform us into a top 3 team. If we are allowed by the cartel to sign someone like Mbeumo, that is.

My point was I thought we needed someone like Mbuemo to help us progress to become a better side, but now I’m not so sure anymore. Murphy may not be as good of a player, but in our system he works really well. Plus he’s a Newcastle fan and would bust a gut for us, and is on relatively low wages. If money for squad reinforcements is scarse, which it likely is, Murphy playing like he is atm may just have changed our thinking about the priorities for this and the summer transfer window. If we continue to be hamstrung by the unfair financial rules, we can just look for the next Mbeumo. Someone like Dilane Bakwa in France has really decent numbers in a middling side. My point is that in a world where our spending is artificially limited we may need to consider the possibility of Murphy staying on as the first XI option instead of outright replacing him. kingxlnc Posted yesterday at 09:25 Share Posted yesterday at 09:25 I agree, but it would have to be in January, in the summer and he goes elsewhere. I like the idea because he can also be cover for Isak also. Just how Gordon sometimes goes CF when we want to save Isaks legs, we can also do it with Mbuemo. Would be an amazing option, kills two birds with one stone. Great cover also, with many combinations possible. Gordon Isak Mbuemo Barnes Wilson Murphy Willock Osula Joelinton
Checko Posted yesterday at 09:26 Share Posted yesterday at 09:26 According to Fbref Mbeumo is number 4 on their list of similar players to Murphy. That said Bruno Fernandes is no. 10 so I'd take it with a heart attack's worth of salt. Not sure why I even bothered to mention it really.
