They do genuinely have a lot of money backing them, and are willing to spend it. There's a belief among the Villa fans that their board have actually accelerated their plans due to our takeover (have a few mates from down that way). Makes sense, as the only real chance they have of getting ahead of us is being faster out the blocks initially. You have to imagine once we get our eggs in a row with sponsorships/commercially we will fly past them.

Never conisdered that but it makes sense. Also dangerous though, they could end up like Everton (even if not to the same extent) while we build a solid base slowly and meticulously.

:lol: This seems like a distinctly paranoid take. Everyone gets linked with everyone, particularly those with money. That’s how this works.

Man City's signing of Julian Alverez seems to have massively gone under the radar but he scored another 6 goals last night in a 8-1 River Plate win.

 

All the talk is that he's one of the best talents in South America, 22 year old wide forward......15 goals in 19 appearances.

Cracking player, which is why Pep wants him at the club this summer for pre season. Might take some adapting to the physical side of the league, but if/when he does, he’ll be great.

Stay with City and come in like Foden did. Really can’t see them loaning him.

I think he'll be a rotation option across the front three. Bedding him in slowly and eventually an option when they rest/rotate Haaland.

 

I don't see him going anywhere on loan now.

re spending - if the money is there, try to improve. What other teams do won’t come into it, it’ll be about backing the manager. 
 

Our owners have got plenty of money and are doing exactly what you want from owners, making the funds available to improve the squad whilst at the same time growing the youth policy (Jacob Ramsey a great example). 
 

For all the money spent buying players in, the investment in youth is also there (building an inner city academy literally next door to the ground, also buying promising youth talent from other clubs for example). We’ve just sold a youth product for £100m after all, shows how important that side of things is as part of the bigger picture. 
 

regarding buying players, my take on it is that spending a lot of money on players does not guarantee success, but not spending pretty much guarantees failure

There's an unhealthy obsession on this board with Everton and their failures. That's one club who has messed up whilst ignoring countless examples of successful clubs who have done it by spending money.
