That'll perpetuate the alleged delusion nicely.

I'll bet you any f***ing money that the fans will be attributed with that s**** at some stage.

Palace will be fine tbh imo once they get some strikers back and in form.

Considering they have 3 points in 9 games i find it very hard to believe they'll be fine.

 Not just that but only scored in one of those 9 games and are already pushing close to -20 goal difference.

They deservedly beat Chelsea last week and I wouldn't have complained if yesterday's match ended 0-0.  Hodgson got Fulham out of a worse situation.

Obviously it depends on the manager, Pardew would have us relegated without a doubt. [emoji38] I just think a lot of the teams from 10th downwards are very overrated talent wise, with or without Rafa i think we are better than the bottom 6 imo.

The front 2 are utter garbage but most of the team belongs in the 11th-15th range. Basically any manager who doesn't actively make the team worse would have us safe personally.

I totally disagree like. There aren't really a set number of teams from 10th downwards tbf, which is kind of the point. Anyone outside of the top 6 bar Watford and arguably Burnley are all about the same for one reason or another, but I'd argue that our reason is almost entirely Rafa. In terms of squad quality we'd be right down there imo and I think with any other non-top 6 manager we'd be that stand out team that looks like a cert for relegation.

I think the exact opposite tbh. I think we'd be bottom or thereabouts without Rafa tbh. The league is very competitive this season and there isn't one team that massively stands out as a certainty for relegation.

Palace.

A certainty? Not a chance. Their quality is far superior to the likes of Sunderland, Middlesbrough, and pre-Silva Hull from last season. It wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if Palace stayed up, I think West Ham and Stoke are in more trouble purely because they haven't removed their managers yet.

We are winning a lot of even games, like yesterday because we are tight and organised nowadays.  That's down to the manager and the work on the training field.

They're two wins away from getting out of the relegation zone, we're 9 games in and they've just changed their manager and tactics. They've easily got enough to stay up.

Yesterday's win has never been the sort of game that Newcastle has won.

This is what i mean by overrating talent imo.

Palace are absolutely awful, they have a couple of decent dribblers but that's it. Same goes for Stoke, West Ham etc etc all of them are vastly overrated in terms of talent.

We might not have eye catching talent or hyped up young players but the players we do have work hard, not mentally naive and positionally excellent for the most part. ( some of that is down to Rafa but some of them are good at that regardless)

Which for the most part is much more effective at winning games at football at the lower end than a few dribbles here and there. There's no doubt Rafa is making us perform well above our level, i mean we are 6th ffs  but of the teams you expect to be down there i think we are better with any manager who isn't actively making it worse.

Apart from Elliot, who is actually only really Championship level in our team? Manquillo is iffy but he's better than the Championship, same with Perez & Joselu.

Nobody, the squad is actually better than people think. Don't get me wrong it's still shite  But i don't think we'd go down with a different manager tbh.( obviously within reason) Rafa is doing a fantastic job, goes without saying but i think people overplay it sometimes.

Not a lot of squads in the PL I wouldn't swap ours for on paper. Rafa has them performing well above their supposed level.

It’s a hard debate because motivation and organisation are absolutely vital in football and they can lift a player’s performance a ton. Look how s*** West Ham are doing.

Well obviously, motivation, organisation and confidence is the large part of the game when it comes to football. It's a hard thing to quantify and quite frankly despite the fact i'm the main person arguing it also quite pointless.

We have Rafa so that's all that matters really.

The front two being garbage is what would make us prime candidates for relegation with a lesser manager. Very difficult to win games without goals, and we look absolutely powder puff up front. Our game plan is basically try and keep a clean sheet and hope we get a goal somehow.

Agreed. Our defence is better than the sum of its parts. I put most of that down to Rafa and the coaching staff. I do feel like we would be exposed and concede far more under most other managers. I like the majority of our back four, but I don’t think any are high quality. Not yet, at least.

Going forward. I think we are pretty toothless and there are next to no goals in the team. We lack pace and creativity in the final third and rarely look threatening. Individually, I don’t look at any of our attacking players and think we’re lucky to have them and they’ll be off to a bigger club soon enough. Whereas in recent years, that has actually been the case.

I really do think on the whole, that this squad is made up of Championship/low end Prem players, bar a few exceptions. Throw in the fact that even ignoring the quality of the players. We are short in 2-3 positions. Then I really do think we’d be in a right scrap without Rafa.

Perez didn't look anything special in the Championship, in fact he was quite poor for a lot of it. Certainly didn't look like he was playing at a level below his ability tbh. Him and Joselu were both awful yesterday and at times it was like playing with 9 men.

I still maintain we have a bottom 6 squad when you compare us to what other teams have got.

The quality of this squad is bottom 6-8. far from clearly better than the bottom 6.

Quality wise we are no better than Palace - which is why our game was so close.

Don't think Palace are a certainty to go down. Reckon they'll still be in with a shout of staying up with 2 or so games to go and will actually stay up.

They're not cut adrift just yet. And I could see them winning 4 or 5 on the spin at some point.

Agreed.

Just look at Everton man. We aren't any better than these man for man. They also don't have much going forward.

But we have Rafa and they don't.

Over 38 games Rafa keeps up both of our relegation teams in recent years. Comfortably at that.

12 maybe or so PL managers this season would relegate this bunch.

He has a philosophy and a way of playing. Those nobheads down the road bleating on about how he took us down are either in denial or just too thick to get it.

Some managers get an instant reaction due to their motivational style but fail medium/long term because they don’t have the tactical nous.  Di Canio being a prime example.

World class managers take much more time to instill a system and belief into the club that permeates throughout and lasts. Benitez being a prime example
