He gives a budget just like any other owner/chairman who runs a business and then the manager works with that budget. He does not decide who is recruited with that budget. Rafa chose to sign these useless f***ers he was not forced to what cant you understand about that *breathe* Right... Example time Rafa wants a 15mil striker, a 10mil LB and a 15 mil CM. 40mil is not much in todays market. Ashley counters with a budget of 18mil. Rafa then has to buy a 5mil Joselu, a 5mil Manq, and an 8mil Merino. If he doesn't buy them, we have no LB to cover the injured Dummett, no CF he trusts other than Gayle, and 2 CMs in Hayden and Jonjo. See the problem? Since he's come back into the side we've looked strong defensively which is what Rafa wants and obviously what he believes will pick us up points in the long run. You really think Joselu was #1 on Rafa's list?? He was a last resort, at a club prepared to accept a pretty low fee for a 'PL' striker, and a player willing to accept the (probably) very average wage being offered. Its been stated already... Rafa had deals lined up for arguably much better players, but then Charnley et al, would not close out those deals, for whatever reason. Rafa clearly didn't fancy it, despite putting 2 strikers on it was very negative in the shape and style. We didn't get beat but the worrying thing is Rafa looked clueless how to obtain the other 2 points against a side he should. Probably because we lost to them last time. The tactics he's using are damage control until the window opens. If he's not backed he'll walk before it shuts. For all the talk, there's probably a lot of truth in this. Benitez has come out multiple times during the last 2 windows saying he hasn't got a clue what's going on and just hopes Charnley 'gets them over the line'. Did you not see his presser when he wanted us to bring in Townsend? He was literally in the dark over what was happening. Same with the closing stages of the Summer window. It's the exact same as what happened with Keegan, he seems confident we'll get someone in and then as the window comes to close it's become apparent Mike and (in this case Lee) are fucking him around. I've not agreed with his team selections (even today I was surprised to see so many agreeable reactions in the pre-match thread). But the tactics? I don't enjoy them, but we've seen what happens when this team tries to attack. We're not actually that good at it. So we might score, we might not. But we sure as fuck will leave holes at the back, implode and concede. Because we don't have that good a team. Who's at fault for the individuals Rafa has to pick? Mike fucking Ashley. The very fact that people are now starting to blame Rafa for 'choosing' the players he has at his disposal and absolving that fat cunt of his responsibilities is what incenses me more than anything right now. How many times does it need to be highlighted that he's had the carpet pulled from under him twice now, leaving him scrabbling around for a player that even slightly matches his needs, whilst keeping it within the comparative budget of your average Championship team?
