Guest
I'm sure Keys and Co will spin it to make Rafa the villan, you must be mad to renew knowing what's coming this season “Rafa wanted a ridiculous transfer budget, why should any owner bow to that?”

54
Has a club ever let go of a manager door being to ambitious before? Twats.
toon25
I can’t remember many clubs having let a manager go because his contract expired tbh.
Minhosa
Wish he'd skewered Ashley more but a typically classy statement from a top class guy. What a loss he's going to be.
Unbelievable
Been far too kind to Ashley with that. Expected that to be the case though. Dunno, it pretty much says 'the owners have no ambition or vision'. He was hardly going to lay into him with emotive language, but that's subtly scathing. Exactly. It doesn’t leave much to our imagination as a fan base does it? Keegan, Shearer, Hughton and now Rafa. 12 years in and nothing much has changed. Everybody who continues putting their money in is assisting in the demolition of whatever remains of our club under this ownership.
tmonkey
Bit disappointed there's not more shots fired in that, but at the same time if Kevin Keegan fired plenty of shots and nothing came of it then Rafa doing the same probably wouldn't lead to anything changing anyway (other than more closure for those of us who do have hopes of seeing a competitive NUFC one day). Tribesman
Benitez basically saying in the politest way possible that Ashley hasn't changed and the club have no ambitions higher than finishing 17th in the league. I'm really glad he left because he deserves much better.
tmonkey
Has a club ever let go of a manager door being to ambitious before? Twats. Derby County getting rid of Nigel Brian Clough after winning league title. Pretty much a movie based around it (The Damned United). Though that was maybe more about Clough's media persona rubbing people the wrong way in addition to his ambitions for the club. Would be great if someone did a movie about Mike Ashley's time at NUFC one day, especially if it's a movie about Rafa say if he goes to another mid table club and does well. Plenty of scope to show Ashley to be the malevolent owner that he actually is - he ran a fucking PR campaign against his own manager ffs . Wheeled out a bunch of cunts like Rio Ferdinand, Souness, Richard Keys, Shola Ameobi, Dennis Wise, etc etc, just to bad mouth the very guy keeping this club's neck above water. As if that wouldn't be a golden opportunity for a montage scene in a movie. Can use the Keegan fallout and subsequent tribunal as a backdrop.

number9shirt
I was gutted when Keegan left, devastated when Sir Bobby went but I didn't cry, yet here I am in my mid 30s welling up reading Rafa's words.

Wilson
Looking forward to the clubs 'retaliation' when they start putting stories out to Sky and the rest of MA's minions saying how he was unrealistic and wanted too much money for transfers/massive wages and unrealistic expectations to compete with Man City. In our times of trouble we rallied together against the spivs, thats why we are an Institution and NUFC are a football club. Summed up pretty well

Summed up pretty well Aye, the amount of comments I seen calling LMG embarrassing and had 'took it too far' by going to Ashleys house as they were 'crossing the line into his personal life' was fucking infuriating yesterday. It's exactly why we can't rally together.

Tyne81
Dignified personified as always. What a man, I'm glad he's free now. He will be winning a trophy soon enough and I expect to be both chuffed to bits for him and numb of would should have been. I've said since we got relegated he will win something for us, could feel it would happen only for the fucking owner to deliberately screw his own asset man mental. steve_69
How are Rangers an "institution"? No one gives a fuck about them outside of the SPL. Honestly the arrogance of supporting the equivalent of league 1 upper football at most and acting like its any way comparable to PL or us is laughable to me. Fuck Ashley but fuck Rangers too I think you're concentrating on the wrong part of that quote tbh. You could quite easily swap out the wording used to describe the clubs but what he's saying about the difference between them and us could not be more spot on
