Unbelievable
They’ve got a solid spine, if they can find a quality striker again they’ll truly be back. Aye. We have some very promising youngsters coming through, especially in central defense (De Ligt) and midfield (De Jong), with the likes of Van Dijk, Wijnaldum, Blind, etc. all quite dependable and a good age. Depay is a vital player as he's the only one who can force the issue for us up front. What's missing now is that one player of outstanding quality who can make a decent team into a good one. A Robben, Van Persie or Van Nistelrooij. Problem is there doesn't really seem to be one on the horizon.
Raconteur
Tim Cahill (38) has just made his final appearance for Australia, an eight-minute cameo to accept the plaudits. "Australia's greatest ever player" who boasts "a resume that will never be equaled". Bold praise indeed. 108 caps, 50 goals, played in four World Cups and three Asian Cups (including a winners medal). For those who care about the match, Australia won 3-0 thanks to two goals and an assist from a Scottish striker who'd never set foot in Australia until last week. The College Dropout
I think it's often better for teams not to have one outstanding individual like that at international level. Over-dependance, others pass on responsibility.
Raconteur
We haven't had good players since Germany 06. He was starting in the 18 WC qualifying campaign and scored the goal that sent us through. We're fucked without him, and he hasn't been good for five years or more.
