nufcjmc Posted yesterday at 14:45 Share Posted yesterday at 14:45 (edited) Fuck no to a contract extension he was shite last season and reaks of a miggy style live to regret it miggy contract extension. Ben jacobs on one of the local podcast shows states its 8m dollars so around 6m if true sell up and move on. The Greek lad has champions league experience and cost us 20m just give him a go. We all know the 20m was just a way of getting around PSR, he's worth about £5m in reality.
andycap Posted yesterday at 14:49 Share Posted yesterday at 14:49 Big test for Dubravka tonight with the arsenal set pieces hopefully he can deal with there antics.
MagCA Posted yesterday at 14:55 Share Posted yesterday at 14:55 A new contract Blimey, we truly are in the mud aren’t we?
Lush Vlad Posted yesterday at 15:18 Share Posted yesterday at 15:18 If we are going to offer him a new contract. When there is a chance to get his wages off the books and possibly a small fee. Then we really haven’t learnt, have we? 35 and showed over a long spell last season he was not up to par. He has been great of late. But had no saves to make. We need to be upgrading some of our starters and our back ups. Not getting them to stay here even longer

TRon Posted yesterday at 15:26 Share Posted yesterday at 15:26 Might as well sign another 3 shit keepers for £20m if we are giving Dubravka a new contract.
timeEd32 Posted yesterday at 15:53 Share Posted yesterday at 15:53 The adult in the room needs to be making the long term decision. It’s fine for Eddie to want to keep him - coaches never want to lose anyone who might play - but the counter voice with a view to summer and beyond is where we went astray in the last 18 months. jonny1403 Posted yesterday at 15:55 Share Posted yesterday at 15:55 I wouldn't be against a 1 year extension but if we actually are being offered 6 million for him we'd be mad to turn it down.

I think this is what Howe was alluding to when he said business decisions were overriding football decisions now. Or at least I hope it was. Howe is absolutely right as a coach to want to keep a goalie like Dubravka, he is still as good a back up keeper as any in the PL. But Mitchell would be absolutely right to take £6m for a 35 year old keeper if it's on the table.
The College Dropout Posted yesterday at 16:10 Share Posted yesterday at 16:10 New contract. £6m deal in the summer in Saudi.
Sibierski Posted yesterday at 16:12 Share Posted yesterday at 16:12 New contract can only be logical if everyone has agreed (and are confident) that Pope will be sold in Summer.

What if the only willing buyer walks away and moves on to other targets and we are stuck with him or don't go on to secure a fee for him. No promises that we will be able to have our cake and eat it keeping him longer than this window.

Novocastrian Posted yesterday at 16:54 Share Posted yesterday at 16:54 The club have walked into this one by having three other keepers not deemed fit to play for the first team. Pope is injured and Dubs wants away. We can’t let him leave now but he’ll only stay with a new contact.
Kanj Posted yesterday at 16:56 Share Posted yesterday at 16:56 If hes getting a new contract, then Mitchell will have signed off on this too. It's not just Eddie making unilateral decisions, ffs.

Kanj Posted yesterday at 16:57 Share Posted yesterday at 16:57 I wish the Saudi ownership interest could have a kind word with whoever is doing the deals at this Saudi club; agree a fee that either goes through Jan 31 or end of season. Same fee. Thanks.
Kanj Posted yesterday at 16:58 Share Posted yesterday at 16:58 I see no reason letting him go until Pope is 100% fit and we have a viable backup we can sign.

Geordie_once_removed Posted yesterday at 17:34 Share Posted yesterday at 17:34 The cynic in me wonders if any chatter around a new contract could just be a way of justifying a higher fee for him in a world of fair market value assessments. I.e. "We wanted him to stay and he was about to sign a new contract, but £8 million was too much to turn down"
