We under-value him. Always have since it turned out he wasn’t a £50m player good enough for Manchester Utd.

Hes a fine understudy, good character, home grown which is useful for Europe. Not good enough to start regular, and I don’t want to rely on him. However it will be very rare the reason we lose is solely down to him. There are 10 other players on the pitch too.
Would be a good pick up for a lot of teams. Happy to sell, but only when it suits the club. I trust Eddie to make that call.

Hard to know if we undervalue him unless another team actually wants to buy him. I'm assuming there's not much interest since he's not been getting games for us and no one has come in for him.

Says more about the press watching the games than how he actually played. I’m grateful for everything Lobby has given the club but between last season and seeing him v Bromley and Birmingham now, the regression in his game has become quite stark.

This time a year ago I watched him against Fulham in the 4th round and he was effective. Fast-forward a year and he was clumsy, passive and frightened yesterday.

His game hasn’t regressed it’s his confidence that’s regressed. It’s up to the supporters to help with that yet many seem to fail to see it that way.

Like him or loathe him whilst he’s wearing our colours try to support him. If you do his form will return.

If not then don’t think yourself any better than those Everton fans chasing Gordon out the club as there is less difference than you think.

Sadly it seems it’s gone beyond the point of return. Next summer will tell us this.

Bit extreme. Are we blockading roads and telling him to get out the club whilst offering him out?

Certain players do seem to be a lightning rod for negativity and moans and groans from the crowd. Murphy, Longstaff, Almiron. I can be guilty of it, for sure. Willock is another that fans get frustrated with and it’s understandable at times.

But I’m not having that suddenly being positive about Longstaff will mean his performances and form will improve?

I also don’t think he’s regressed as a player. I think he’s always been a limited player. Who was very good in a particular setup and following the plan to the letter.

The fact we are trying to evolve as a team and we now have better players. It has become even more noticeable. It’s

not a coincidence that he now seems to be 6th choice CM.

He deserves our support when he’s on the pitch. Everyone at the club does currently. Which maybe wasn’t the case over the years!

But I’m not sure what the issue is with talking about him on here when he’s been playing crap or suggesting he needs to be moved on?

Great pass to Livramento for Wilson's goal yesterday. Perfect line and weight. The rest of the game he's a useful enough pest to the opposition, like sending a border collie scampering round the pitch. Just not much use when we have the ball. I'm willing to keep him as squad cannon fodder

If Bruno or Tonali get injured him or Miley steps in. We need a squad, last season showed us that.

no one is silly enough to say we dont need a player to cover the debate is if Sean at 27/28 coming to the end of his contract gets a big extension and sticks around as backup or do we sell and reinvest in the squad, he's going to need replacing by youth setup or signing.

I dont think he is good to have a sustained period in the side and the quality gulf between one of the two you mentioning coming out and him coming in is too big.

as has been suggested if no one comes in for him I can see the club giving him a 2/3 year deal just to stop him walking away for nothing which right now for me would be a mistake.

Had a look at this thread at 8am this morning before we boulled out skiing.

Started typing "good to see now Miggy's gone there's another whipping boy on the conveyor belt" but didn't bother.

Even read some wanker suggest Longstaff doesn't even try man 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

Honestly, have your opinions. Crack on. I've got mine and there's some absolute howlers in our ranks.

Sean Longstaff is a decent enough player. Played a big part in finishing 4th. Played a big part in our, short lived, CL campaign. ISN'T Tonali and Bruno level. According to Eddie, on selection alone, isn't even Joelinton, Miley and Willock level so 6th choice.

Tbf, he probably needs to go and get 1st team football elsewhere and then you lot can move onto the next poor sap.

Nothing you've said here is wrong. Same as those saying he's been utter shite against poor sides on multiple occasions this season. We just don't need him in our squad anymore, we should sell him and chase either another purple or a player with potential to become a purple.

This whipping boy narrative is boring. Most are in agreement that we've basically outgrown him and he needs to move on for the sake of his career.

It might be boring but it's true and it's relentless and way more boring than pointing it out.

I think this is it 50k a week to be 6th choice and minutes restricted, he is 28 this year coming to the end of his current contract and you would imagine even if player sales happen he will always be down the pecking order here due to what he can offer. I think it would be better for him to move on and get more game time and us to invest the money into progressing.

I have no doubt he loves the club by all accounts nice lad goes to loads of the youth games and is really invested into the place but that doesnt mean he cant go on to have a great career elsewhere.

Dan Burn gets loads of stick on here and he's been nothing short of brilliant so far this season.

Played well against Birmingham. Two assists and they struggled to deal with him when he got near the byline. Gave the ball away twice which I know the majority of fans will get excited about but the two important assists make up for that.

This must be a windup 🤣

Perfectly capable PL midfielder - his greatest weakness was always the time he takes on the ball.  This isn't laziness, more a slowness in decision-making - it is what stops him from being a really good PL midfielder.

I'm happy he's here as a squad midfielder - he's not as good as Bruno or Tonali; but at the moment very few are.

It would cost us 20m+ to bring in a replacement of guaranteed similar PL capability - and he's one of us (and a HG player).  Why the urge to get rid?  If the lad is happy to stay, then unless we get an unrefusable offer then we should embrace him.

No. He was effective at getting us through to the next round by getting two assists. Why does that wind you up? Bizarre.

Definitely a confidence player.

I think he still has a role to play in the squad where you need someone for last 20 minutes to run around a bit. Unfortunately he’s not technically strong enough for where we want to get to.

Feels like we have higher priorities to sort out this summer rather than Longstaff replacement, unless a decent bid for him comes in.

He’s not perfectly capable, he’s pretty low quality. But I agree with the rest. If it was up to me I would probably sell, but I understand the argument for keeping him.

I would ideally like someone really experienced if Trippier leaves, like Wolves did with Moutinho. But I’m guessing we won’t be thinking like that.

I could live with him coming in and doing a job if he fixed either the dawdling or the passing accuracy, but ideally both. They stick out like a sore thumb now, but even then they weren't really problems that he had a couple of years ago.

The problem Longstaff has is that you don’t notice him when he’s playing well. He doesn’t have the same levels to his game that Bruno and Tonali have, he’s never going to be a highlight reel player. But when he’s on it he really helps hang the midfield together by being the person who does the

unsexy stuff.

The flip side of that is that when he has a shitter it’s really obvious. Not only is he crap, but we’re usually getting battered too.

I’ve no idea why a local lad who has played a pivotal role in the progress of this club over the last few years gets so much hate. But then there’s a huge amount I don’t understand about some of the entitled fuckers that ‘support’ us.
