Was a no brainer to renew couple og months ago, but hes been so poor lately. Hope we dont have to rely on him too much next season. Maybe he will look better with less game time.

Him signing a new contract means just one CB signing then? He's been so bad recently, hopefully the back up role suits him. Will also hope any new deal, is with view that it still keeps a transfer fee on the table.

Still good enough to be back up next season imo.

I’ve watched you sporadically this season so can’t really comment but I do wonder if this thread mirrors ours about Son. Like, he’s forced to play a ton of games and everyone says he’s finished, then he gets a rest, has a great game and everyone says “his minutes just need managing”. Then he has a bad game and “he’s finished” again.

Schar doesn’t have all the international travelling Son has to do but Botman’s ongoing problems mean he has to play far more minutes than you’d like. Only Gordon and Bruno played more games for you last year and at Schar’s age you just can’t keep doing that.

Seems to me he’d be a great backup CB next year. You just really need two younger CBs if Botman is going to miss so much time - everyone else is the wrong side of 30, no? Schär, Lascelles, Krafth, Burn. That’s not sustainable.

Schar-Burn isn’t working very well at the moment, but it’s a combination that’s supposed to play 10 games a season, not 50. They are both going to the wall for the club this season as they are the only consistently fit CBs.

Schar is a good player and it would be brainless to let him go in the summer, even with new signings

Aye, for the next week or so, if bumping any threads about current players, can we add 'not injured' to the title.

Not necessary for the Callum Wilson thread, thar.

Bad recently, but the balance to that is that he had been pressured heavily by every side we play as he’s our only fit CB capable of passing the ball to a decent standard. Hes taken on increased responsibility and hasn’t looked great, still think he’d be back to being fine in a more balanced/stable back 4.

Also, some fans attitude of just binning off players the moment they begin to decline or are out of form is total unappreciative arrogance.

Schar has always had flakey moments when defending, but now he's starting to misplace passes regularly which is alarming.

It’s because oppositions press is focused on him, Burn isn’t a threat with the ball so Schar gets pressed and has passing lanes cut. Another ball player next to him and it’s a different story.

Schar plays like he thinks he's Beckenbauer sometimes - very casual which often leads to being caught in possession or misplacing passes.

Some of the passing mistakes he's made have been through his own error.

Fair enough if the pass isn't on, don't try it but absolutely don't lose the ball in dangerous areas when there are simple passes to be made.

Wilson has been a fantastic player for us, but do you want to give him a new contract?

I won’t disagree that’s he’s struggled, he’s put himself in trouble in moments. But he has been heavily pressed at pretty much all times, I don’t think he’s done as badly as some have made out under the circumstances.

I've seen at least one howler per game by Schar picking up the ball with no pressure and looking for a pass but absolutely failing in execution, which leads to a counter attack by the opposition and of course Schar himself isn't blessed with pace.

I don't mind the long diagonals because there are less risks.

The point is that Schars performances have regressed, quite alot...and in an Eddie Howe side, there's rarely a hiding place for a CB because of the expectations placed on them to win their duels.
