Manchester City 2 - 1 Newcastle United - 01/09/18 - Post-match reaction from p17

Wonder why Rafa has decided to play a bit this game rather than 10 behind the ball.

It's the exact same approach man.

Just done a better job of using the ball.

Mainly because of Kenedy coming back in.

The goal came from Perez winning the ball then playing the sort of pass into a dangerous area that few members of our squad would even contemplate. Kennedy showed fantastic control, Rondon did well to find Yedlin although it was a basic push across goal, and Yedlin obviously deserves huge credit for making the run and for the finish.

Chelsea are more possession oriented and strangled us a bit. City are more open so there's more space for us to work with.

Sarri has already worked wonders on Chelsea's shape in possession - it was really good.

This is the thing, if somehow we managed to get a result the narrative would be that Rafa changed approach, when in reality its just the gameplay being executed by the players better. Standard of punditry in this country is such a joke like.

Watching it back Perez did do great, fair play.

Good tackle to win the ball, and the pass into Kenedy was a really good one.

I tend to prefer the things he does when he's a bit wider and he doesn't try to do too much.

We havent been that far off the block. Had Kenedy not missed that pen (should have never been the one taking it), things would be looking way different in my eyes. Still this is a difficult start to the season for the first 7-8 weeks. Nevertheless we are in these games. Once the new guys are fully integrated, we will be just fine.

Lets keep this going 2nd half. There is space wide and Rondon...someone give him something to last a full 90 minutes cause he is bossing it in his hold up play and that pass was everything.

Rafa has his plan. Give him better players and they execute his plan more often than not. When you’re dealing with a Ki, Clark, etc as your replacements for your starters then you’re going to have far more execution risk.

I’m not going to get carried away, City have it in them to turn us inside out if they click but I’m sick of people saying having a go is all you need to do and the lads will hold their heads high no matter what. You don’t think for a second the Newcastle players are pumped up for having matched the champions for 45 mins with the game plan their manager set out?

Rondon has been brilliant imo. Absolute brute. None of our strikers in recent years play that pass either.

Basic push across goal? He put it through the defender's legs man, give him some credit
