Almiron - If he is to be a success on Tyneside he must improve his suspect finishing, trying to chip the Huddersfield ‘keeper instead of smashing it into the back of the net when one on one is the kind of cocky arrogance that does nothing to dispel the fancy dan image of foreigners who clubs like United splash millions on at the expense of home grown players. Alan Shearer, the lion of Gosforth, would have smashed that into the back of the net, but than the former United number 9 always showed his opponent respect. Despite Almiron having other chances, failing to score on his debut doesn’t bode well for the new man which United will rightly expect to justify the millions they spent to bring him here with better finishing and some humility. 4/10

Good question.

not sure i can remember a performance/debut for a long time that looked to transform the way the team played so much...it wasn't a great individual debut in the sense he didn't score or assist but his performance changed the way others around him were playing and how well they performed

What utter bollocks. Only a genuine finisher would have the confidence and instincts to go for the chip rather than blast it and hope for the best.

Was Sissoko's debut not away to Villa? Was also very good that day.

Aye. After the first two games Sissoko looked like the new Yaya Toure. Shame he's a lazy, mentally weak mercenary.

What would everyone class as a successful contribution from him for the rest of the season?

Seeing as he's taken Atsu's spot (I like him but he's directly contributed 0 to our goal tally this season), even a fairly modest tally of a couple of goals and assists would be a massive improvement for the team.

It sounds like finishing is the weakest part of his game, so I don't expect him to score many for the time being. His ability to create chances for Perez & Rondon, 2 very decent finishers who need good service, is what's most important.

Oh Miggy Miggy, Miggy Miggy Miggy Miggy Al-mi-ron.

Surely thats the chant, nice and simple.

In my mind, this chant is followed by the awards ceremony for the worst nickname in the world - Almiron taking the title ahead of Fluffy Magee and Cuddles Smith.

Anyone else notice a seeming reluctance for Ritchie to pass the ball to Almiron in the first half? I counted 4/5 time where there was an easy pass to Almiron in space on the left and Ritchie ignored him time and time again to cut inside. It's just strange that then later in the game Almiron took a shot from inside the box, and the overlapping Ritchie turned and screamed at him to pass when he hadn't passed to him all game...

Probably reading too far into it but it seemed strange at the time of watching.

I noticed this too, several times in the first half Almiron made a good run into space in the left channel and the pass was on, and Ritchie just completely ignored him. Was very strange. Maybe he's jealous of all the love the new boy is getting. Or he hates South Americans.
