Wigan's points are only being applied this season if they can't be relegated arnt they? No, they are only applied if they don’t finish in the bottom 3. I doubt either Barnsley or Luton will overtake Boro though, and Wigan as it stands would need 4 more points than Boro to finish above them (assuming they retain their better GD against them). I can see Boro finishing in the bottom 3, but finishing less than 12 points behind Wigan. That’s a shame really. The Mackems could have had their NE derby next season after all. Their slump started pre lockdown actually. They had that subpar game at home to West Ham where they only just came through with the win, then Watford.
