Mike Ashley (former owner) (still alive)

"Rafa Benitez faces the sack"

He's got 28 days left on his contract man! These journos really are inept on every level.

They also say they want us to replace him with Mourinho or Wenger but quote a source as saying "there's other options". Totally fabricated nonsense to sell red top rags.

Remember the News of the World linking us with Ronaldinho, Raul, Beckham, etc almost every week after Ashley bought us?

Think it got to the stage on here where the hour leading up to when the rags would update their sites on a Saturday night, we’d guess the Galactico linked that week.

If they come in and have their own man lined up, if it’s Mourinho/Wenger then I won’t mind because at least that’s a statement of intent still.

It’s if Ashley stays, can’t agree to keep Rafa due to tightness and we end up with someone else that I’m bothered about.

Why would it be either of them? Wenger is done. Mourinho sounds like he is. His only upside would be seeing to what utter depths of depression this place could plumb given the suicidal wailings around Rafa's owen ahem less than aggressive setups but I still wouldn't want him.

Bahaha. Why would Wenger or Mourinho be a bigger name than re-signing Rafa who is up there with both. What a load of garbage, amazing. Still got us talking and clicking and reacting though.

If in doubt or out in the cold grab some straws and create bitter controversy. He obviously knows dick all.

Missing the point but ok.

Just to clarify I was laughing at the article not you! I agree hypothetically with what you said about them clearly having ambition if that was the case.

The article is nonsense though. Why would they want to come in and get rid of a manager that is on par with the others mentioned and risk alienating the fans and players. If they were buying the Club Rafa would be a huge attraction. Bringing your own man is fine if you have a bog standard manager to replace.

The journos don't know shit because nobody is saying anything. That one guy at the sun got a leak from the PL which forced a statement from the Sheikh but apart from that it's been silent the whole way (as you'd expect).  If the PL leak hadn't happened we wouldn't even be aware of it and would still be pissing and moaning about Rafa's contract.

Ignore the journos, they know nowt.

I agree with this. What important is what the group said, the silent of the club and PL, and that's it. Everyone else is know nothing about it. So ignore them.

I don't find John Richardson reliable, but that's the first time I have read quotes close to Ashley and it raises a red flag for me regarding the deal. Similar comments were said for the last 2 takeovers and they both eventually collapsed.

I think a lot of fans want rid of Ashley so badly that they're twisting every bit of info so that in their heads its all positive. Things like "journalists who are sceptical are just jealous they missed the scoop" - ignoring the fact that extreme scepticism is absolutely needed with Ashley. And especially when it comes to supposed takeovers.

The position we need to take is to call it out and say we will believe it when it happens. We've seen this stuff fall apart far too many times before.

Remember a few days ago we were already sold, it was a done deal ffs. Now? Starting to look like our bi-annual takeover saga that drags on for a couple of months...by which time Rafa's contract has ran out.

Half glass full...half glass empty...

Full glass over head ala woodgate.

It's all pontification until something office finally happens. Most people would take the sublime and ridiculous in any measure to the monotony of waiting another month to finalize the truth.

With recent events not going his way and then reactionary moves like selling buildings, it does appear that Ashley is going through a bit of a rut financially.

He definitely wants out and compared to circa 2009 when he made a show of himself in Dubai but wasn’t that bothered if he sold the club or not, this time he can’t afford to call bullshit on the people he’s dealing with.

Why?  Because the process and takeover haven't been completed in the six days since the story broke.  You're letting the journos whip you up into a state where if there's no official statement for a day or two then ITS OFF.

It'll be completed, fat man is gone, just wait for the announcement when it's actually finished and ignore the clueless media.
