Joelinton: will not play against Everton (Howe)

ffs this is a funking joke

at the same time so predictable we'd keep picking up injuries while the other 10 or so injuries are still out

and the way it's going, without a proper break and the same players going again 3 times over the next 7 days...

expect more injuries

:(

We do have a 2 week break after tomorrow

Surely that’s worse ?

Depends how you want to look at it.

If it was obviously that bad should he have come out at all?

But given how little ‘extra’ he actually did, has it really made any difference?

Yeah all guesswork, but if you have to come off after 60 seconds or so of the second half, I’m more inclined to think it was bad enough where he shouldn’t have been on the pitch.

Not ideal but how about a return to Rafa's 3-4-3 for a bit? Burn, Botman, Schar back three, Livramento and Trippier wing-backs, Longstaff and Bruno a midfield two.

Just means we're not hammering poor Miley and we've still got a little bit of flexibility in there rather than none if we're playing all three. Bruno mightn't even have to start do deep since we'd have Schar capable of playing and passing the ball out and we'd still have cover at the back.

Initial fear was a quad tear by the way he kicked his leg out then had to readjust for the landing after being pushed.  Know a few bodybuilders who’ve torn their quads by missing a step and not being prepared for the impact.  But hoping he’s just strained it.

Wouldn’t be surprised if this is longer than 6 weeks.

Not a bad idea, but it does seem unlikely that Howe will move off our standard system.

Agreed, but equally I think it’s probably unlikely he’s actually made it any worse

I think we will just have to accept that we will have 10+ players out for the rest of the season. Players gets injured once again over and over, and some of them last forever while we get new injuries.

But just like with our international break in november nobody will return in that break, so it doesn't even help with anything else other than not getting more injuries.

Listened to Howe's injury update on Twitter.  Murphy sounds like he is very close and Barnes not too far behind him.  So maybe if we are lucky, Murphy will be back.

Willock and Anderson sound more like March or even later.

10 of our 1st team squad have played less than 1,000 minutes so far this season. And 6 of those 10 have played 300 mins or less.

Of the ones who'd played more than 1,000 minutes. Pope, Joelinton, Wilson, Isak, Burn, Botman and Longstaff have also been out injured.

It's no wonder it's been a massively frustrating season. We've got a handful of players being worked to the bone (Bruno, Gordon, Trips, Schar) and loads of players barely contributing.

I've never known anything like it.

Sounds good, but I've learnt to not get my hopes up until they are actually in the squad.

That's why the Phillips signing might be the important one in this window. We have no sort of midfield to compete for Europe as it stands.
