It wasn't a red card offense if that's what you're getting at. Just a natural follow through when he kicked the ball. The still image makes it look way worse than it was.

Thought he was a bit better with the ball than the two away shit shows, but still slack at times. The first Haaland chance comes from him misplacing a simple short pass. 

 

I really hope Howe has learned not to start him 3 games in a week, though. Said this before the game today but out of City, Marseille and Everton this was the one I'd want him to start most. In terms of physicality and generally spoiling he did what you'd want today.

 

He should be sat down for at least one of the other two games this time. Let's see.

Back to his best yesterday didn't have to babysit burn and his press was there to be seen. Playing burn at leftback is detrimental to the whole team and the way we play.

If hall isn't fit for marseille I'd be happy to see Alex Murphy in the position atleast he has recovery pace.

Are you seriously suggesting Joelinton’s poor form this season is because of Burn? I think it’s okay to say he’s been pretty rubbish all on his own, but looked back at it yesterday, which is great.

I do it hasn't helped at all, hes looked like he's been carrying a knock and to have to then babysit burn is all that he needs.

I mean - Burn is limited going forward, so it's fair to suggest it impacts our style of play. I'm not sure Alex Murphy is legimately our next best option at LB though. Nor do I think it's fair to suggest his babysitting of Burn is why he's (Joelintons) been poor. Given that our wingers (excluding Murphy) have been largely shite too. We have also had similar mobility issues impacting our attacking play on the right when Trippier has played there.

 

I don't mind admitting Burn is exposed at LB and isn't a LB but I'm yet to see any obvious alternatives that would definitely have worked in Halls absence.

 

For me, with consideration of a world cup on the horizon for both Tino and Hall, I think Howe is right to not rush them back from a man management perspective and given our fixtures for the next 6-8weeks, it was likely the mid-to-long term solution for managing the squad.

I can see your logic, for sure. Especially if that's his position. I just think Burns experience and leadership has proven to be massive for us when he's played and perhaps offers more to the team in other elements that Murphy likely won't.

 

Pros and cons I guess. Kids not gonna get experience unless he's given chances. Dan Burn has been somewhat undroppable though for a long, long time - so can see why he'd have been preferred.
