Teams target us there if burn has to play hoy him centreback.

Aye. I think when we're playing "our" game then he's targeted I.e. the high press etc. Because he's easier to isolate and take advantage of 1 vs 1 situations where wingers can drive into the space or accelerate past. However, sitting in I think he's absolutely fine, as defensively he's as good as anyone in that squad. That's why for me, against Marseille, I wouldn't be adverse to having him back there, if the plan is to counter attack (for me) as it should be.

Just think Murphy would be better there has more pace and has played there before. Burn doesn't work in that position I'd rather give the lad a chance.

I watched Murphy a few times when he was on loan at Bolton. No thanks at this level.

If hall isn't fit for marseille I'd be happy to see Alex Murphy in the position atleast he has recovery pace.

Would be a very throwback Newcastle line-up to have a home grown CB that will be playing in the lower leagues in 2-3 years time playing at fullback. What's Edgar, Huntington and Ramage up to these days?

Showed his nifty footwork quite a bit today. He's always going to be hit and miss, but he's got much better feet than he gets credit for.

Usually wins it back or makes room for himself with a nice touch. Only for the simple 5-10 yard pass to then let him down.

With Miley, Ramsey and a resurgent Willock in the squad. He shouldn’t be an automatic starter. But he is brilliant in certain situations and I thought the game suited him tonight.

Really thought he was so good tactically today from a defensive standpoint.

Works really well on that left side with the way Hall bombs forward.

He covered for him really well and stopped Ndiaye exploiting any space Hall potentially left down that side, as he covered for him and doubled up on Ndiaye to support him too.

Very easy to overlook this aspect of his game that really allows Hall to shine going forward. Did a heck of a job as his body guard today if you will.

I think we’re seeing the effect proper competition has for places, here. I’ve often found him very frustrating to watch, but the last few games he’s won it back and kept it simple, dropping it off to Bruno or playing it out wide where there’s space. When he plays like this, recognising what he can and can’t do, he’s so much better.

Having Hall take up so much more attacking responsibility definitely makes his life easier.

Burn at left back was not good for him at all.
