Menace
He's a very limited winger and unfortunately the game has moved on from a "tricky winger" now days. Managers demand so much more from wingers.
alexf
His legs were shot when he left us. He had already lost that explosive speed that made him so effective in his earlier days with us due to too many injuries unfortunately. Which is why he was no longer effective for an Eddie team and why he has bounced around different teams in weaker leagues ever since.
bobbydazzla
I was so tuned out of football in the Ashley Bruce era that I don't think I saw Maxi play until Oct 2021 so I can't comment on the joy he may have brought in the darkest of days. But from Oct 2021 onwards I never rated him. Didn't like his attitude on the pitch and he was 90% show and 10% end product. So many times he did my head in because he'd stand for ages remonstrating with himself after doing 15 stepovers and then misplacing a pass, but we had our backs to the wall and needed everyone disciplined and focused on their jobs. Was glad to see the back of him.

They get a lot of attention and have loads of fun when they're out on the lash and people would think they're whacky. But they always wake up alone the next morning because they've got no discipline or end product.
vexred Posted Friday at 09:33 Share Posted Friday at 09:33 I just want Maxi to end up at a club where he's happy. Hopefully this is it.

Steve Charlton Posted Friday at 09:50 Share Posted Friday at 09:50 One of the greats for me,Always exciting During the medieval years with ashley & bruce he was the main man,Remember him setting up chance after chance without whoever was up front scoring.Came on away to Burnley and won us the game when we were 1-0 down in what was a 6pointer.Probably relegated without him returning That image of him tearing at the Man City defence with Guardiola on his knee with his hand covering his eyes in the background...They couldnt handle him
Pilko Posted Friday at 09:58 Share Posted Friday at 09:58 Along with Wilson he absolutely carried us through the Bruce years, was about the only player back then with some proper talent other than Schar who got left on the bench for Jamaal Lascelles, Ciaran Clark and Emil Krafth at centre half. () I was sad when we moved him on but given we replaced with the complete opposite in Barnes who is all end product and no frills, I think we did the right thing ultimately. Don't think he was good enough at pressing for Eddie's style and his relative lack of goals and assists wasn't enough to overlook that longer term. Hope he does well in the MLS as he's clearly a nice fella who sees his time here as the pinnacle of his career, and he's great fun to watch when he's having an "on" day. Definitely one of those players who you can tell 2 minutes after kick-off what sort of game he's going to have from his first few touches.

bowlingcrofty Posted Friday at 10:02 Share Posted Friday at 10:02 I am so ambivalent towards him that I actually can't even remember many even half decent performances from him - probably owing to him being around in the dark times. I seem to remember him being a headless chicken with little to no end product.

bobbydazzla Posted Friday at 10:27 Share Posted Friday at 10:27 (edited) Apparently Hot Hot Heat wrote this song after seeing Maxi play for us, makes perfect sense once you see the lyrics. I've been shaking from making an awful decision I've been running and running Feels like my head is spinning 'round and 'round Around, around, around, around, around Bandages on my legs and my arms from you Bandages, bandages, bandages Up and down on my legs and my arms from you Bandages, bandages, bandages Edited Friday at 10:29 by bobbydazzla

Superior Acuña Posted Friday at 19:07 Share Posted Friday at 19:07 Maxi was clearly limited as we got better but he still did well overall in the Eddie team. He was brilliant in that 3-3 with Man City. And what a joy before that when football seemed so joyless
