TheBrownBottle Posted Saturday at 12:21 Share Posted Saturday at 12:21 Wilson is one of the best no.9s I've seen in B&W before the injuries kicked in fully ... but I'm sorry, I also can't pretend I give a shite. I have no real emotional attachment to players - at least no more than any other humans - I don't know them personally. I hope they're happy etc like I would anyone else - but they're perfect strangers to me. The shirt and the club is what counts, not the bloke temporarily wearing it - the Tommy Dockerty line about strips on a washing line applies to most football fans I reckon. I've little sentiment for players being sold or leaving the club in any real sense - that's what football is. The club is what counts.

He was superb when he was fit - I'd honestly rank him behind Shearer and Isak, but pretty much no-one else - including Cole, Ferdinand, Ba, etc. Absolutely lethal and a great all-round CF - but injuries hampered him - tbf, if they hadn't, Wilson plays for a better club than Ashley's NUFC. I wish him all the best when he goes, and he'll always have my appreciation and respect - but I can't pretend it means anything when a player leaves if that is what is best for the club. Players usually become stalwarts only if they've been good enough - we owe them nowt, they owe us nowt.
Pilko Posted Saturday at 12:31 Share Posted Saturday at 12:31 I know he took pens but Wilson managing to score basically 1 in 2 for that awful Bruce side is an absolute footballing miracle. Clapped out as he looks now, he carried that team on his back.

Better than Cole or Ferdinand for me, given just how shite English football was in the mid-90s compared to today. Wilson is a better finisher than both of them. All opinions, of course
AyeDubbleYoo Posted Saturday at 13:12 Share Posted Saturday at 13:12 He’s done well for us but the overall feeling will be frustration that he wasn’t jettisoned much earlier. Luckily it hasn’t mattered too much. There’s no way he’s better than Cole and Ferdinand. Cole in particular is one of the best finishers even to play in the PL. Wilson was good but it’ll be a relief when he finally goes.

I did And if a CF of Wilson's class played for Man Utd in the late 90s, you'd have won more than one European Cup

If he was playing today, he'd be nowhere near one of the top clubs. English football was - with the best will in the world - shite in the '90s. I can remember it - I was there. Jonas Posted Saturday at 14:19 Share Posted Saturday at 14:19 (edited) Glad someone else said it. The one thing Cole wasn't for us was a good finisher - ratio wise to chances. Wasn't a surprise if he missed a one on one but you'd expect Shearer, Ba, WIlson, Beardsley, Isak to score. Was even worse for Man United in his first few years there and became a bit of a joke and a tradition that he'd shank a good chance a game before coming good after there was a lot of talk of them selling him in 97. Crimson Cardigan Posted Saturday at 14:22 Share Posted Saturday at 14:22 Sometimes I think people don’t seem to grasp that getting into goal scoring positions consistently (popularly known as right place right time) is an elite skill in itself. Cole was brilliant at it.

Holmesy Posted Sunday at 16:39 Share Posted Sunday at 16:39 I don’t get it. He’s a spent force and hasn’t had a decent appearance all season. Meanwhile Osula, who has looked dangerous in the limited minutes he’s played continues to warm the bench.
