Elliot Anderson (now playing for Nottingham Forest)

Recommended Posts

Pretty delighted for him. As others have mentioned, it is what it is. He wouldn't be getting the same opportunies had we kept him, as we all would have liked.

Also think it's fine to feel pissy about losing both Anderson and Minteh, again it's out of our control though.

Holding out faint hope their is a buyback clause in both deals lol

I didn’t rate him much in a Newcastle shirt , flashes of skill , no goals , didn’t really assist either.

Looks much better at Forest and you can see he has something about him , more confidence, more game time , happy to see him do well.

Would love it if he turns out to be a consistent premier league player delivering goals and assists every week.

He plays as a 10. We don’t play with a 10.  Regular games and playing there are massively helping him.

Shame he had to be moved on. But I personally think he actually started to get a bit frustrating for us. Was a bit of a nothing player a lot of the time ans position-less in our side.

The move looks like it is helping his career progress. Good luck to the lad. Glad he is doing well.

He is NOT playing as a ten in Forest. Stop this nonsense.

You SHOULD watch games more closely.

BELLEND.

did you watch their first 6 games then? Go watch it. He got Forest’s player of the month award for that month, mind you.

Ah. So you’re moving the goalposts now? Gibbs-White has been out and he has played as a 10 in those games. The last 2, at least.

Played wide a bit, as well this season. Which was always a better position for him than in the midfield 3 here IMO. But never got the chance on the left much due to our options. I think he was pretty bad in the midfield deeper for us, even.

The first few games he played as an 8, or even closer than a 6, which he was responsible to carry the ball forward. He even needed to chase down opponents and that’s why he couldn’t last for 90 mins the first few games. But the quality and effort were there - and that’s why he got the award

He didn’t shine for us not because he wasn’t playing as a ten. That’s my point, if I didn’t make it clear. It’s not like “ah Anderson finally got a run at ten and that’s why he performed well and got closer to international call up” and “no way he could shine for us because we won’t let him play as a ten”. No.

Yet the 2 games recently where this place seemed to have people losing their minds and get more down in the dumps about losing him. Saw him playing as a 10 and putting in stellar performances.

Perhaps more to do with those games being televised. But I never saw him in other games or on highlights and thought ‘we really miss him.’ I don’t think the complaints were quite so loud, either. Then the last two games. He looked like one of the best, if not the best player on the pitch in a bit of a free role.

Either way. I still think he was positionless in our system and was fairly average to poor in our flat midfield 3. Although not many are excelling in that midfield setup this season, either. But that’s a different conversation…..

You obviously watch Forest a lot more than me.

With Wilock looking a shadow of himself and big Joe out of form we are really missing this lad.

He would be starting for us ATM and would offer something a little different as well.

What he needed was a run of games like he has at Forest - unfortunately I don’t think he would have got them here. He would have got the odd 15 mins off the bench.

it’s the same with Miley, if he gets a solid run of games he’ll come on leaps and bounds.

Not sure keeping him would be worth the 6 point (or whatever) penalty tbh so it’s pointless discussing it.

My post was more a reflection on the lack of tactical flexibility in our squad and us seemingly only being able to play well when at full throttle.

Beats me why you aren't a premier league coach.

Don't neccessarily agree. We had our really good run of form last season when Anderson returned from injury and went into midfield with Bruno and Joe/Miley.

All of a sudden we weren't getting cut through as much and his presence gave us the edge in winning the physical battle.

He'd have played second fiddle to Joe yes, but I think he'd have been first on in most games.

I have to, it's not easy for us amateurs when up against you pro license holders.

73,000 odd posts and you still don’t understand how a forum works 😀 Like I said, don’t think too hard son.

You post, I post, is that how it works ?

I'm not going to check your history but I've no doubt you were shouting week after week that Anderson needed a run of games.

Fwiw ln my opinion is that Miley is still a way off, got the technicals but the off the ball is still not there, and a personal peeve, I don't like the way he tackles, it's all foot no body.

Genuinely happy for him.

for us - this is where proper squad development comes in. And manager and DOF need to be aligned. IMO Joelinton should’ve been sold and replaced by a younger model. Now it looks like Anderson could’ve been that person, that would’ve been ideal squad development.

At the time we weren’t aligned. Mistakes were made.

One criticism of Howe is that once a player has his trust - it’s very difficult for him to lose his place.  If you don’t have his trust you need to be 8/10 minimum for several appearances and gain his trust. Doesn’t help with squad development.  I still think Hall and Livra’s development Could’ve been more proactive for example. It’s only injuries that gave them significant minutes and proper runs in the team. While Trippier and Burn cooked up stinker after stinker. Longstaff is another that springs to mind.
