Arsenal 3-0 Newcastle United - 18/01/2021 - post match from p22

Joelinton and his usual fuk all.

He must have a guaranteed starter clause, as there's literally no point or purpose for him being left midfield. Murphy should be starting if we intend to put crosses in.

Didn't take long for Shelvey to become part of the defence.

Other than the odd Hollywood pass, he doesn't get much further that the halfway line.

Potentially related, but I used to do that when I played a horrible standard Saturday league. Always dropping too deep to get the ball, it’s probably something to do with Shelvey playing with no confidence and it’s easy and a safe option for him to do - further away from opposing midfield, more time. Also drags whole side deeper, as defence can get up.

Needs to show some balls stay and higher and get the ball when opposition is closer. Seems to have lost all his close control now though. Totally shot away as a PL player now

Oh absolute nail on the head there. Loads love to stay safe and hide. I've know of Shelvey for years and years right back to his youth cup days and time at Charlton, he was an attacking midfielder and was miles more mobile, he's just regressed and regressed. Its everything Newcastle are missing in terms of midfield, we haven't had a player who can play the position since Cabaye, Cabaye wasn't the fastest but he showed no fear, he offered plenty in terms of attack and defence.

Joelinton doing still fuk all

He looks like he hates the game. Reckon he’ll retire soon.

Everything he does, he looks like he had to maximum effort and concentration to it. There's no just simple pass for him.

Milner always looked the same to me, with the massive difference that he had all the work rate in the world and actually made himself a good footballer.
