PauloGeordio
14 minutes ago, LV said: You don’t get the full article with that. Can anyone do the honours? Newcastle United owners to stick with Amanda Staveley Martin Hardy Friday August 19 2022, 12.01am BST, The Times Amanda Staveley will remain a key part of Newcastle’s future after her management contract at St James’ Park was reaffirmed by the club’s majority shareholder, Saudi Arabia’s public investment fund. Newcastle’s new chief executive Darren Eales will take his first day in office on Monday next week and he will attend the club’s Premier League game with Manchester City at St James’ Park on Sunday. There have been further key appointments made in recent months, with the FA”s former director of elite development, Dan Ashworth, becoming sporting director. Staveley was pictured at Stamford Bridge on Sunday in the executive box of Chelsea’s co-owner Behdad Eghbali for the controversial 2-2 draw with Tottenham Hotspur but the confirmation of her significant position at Newcastle will end any speculation about her future. Businesswoman Staveley, who led the £305 million takeover of Newcastle last October, holds a ten per cent stake in the north east club through her company PCP Capital Partners. The Times has learned that despite the other major appointments at the club, there has been a new commitment to the agreement Staveley had to oversee operations following the takeover, in what is now known as an ‘advisory agreement’. Newcastle were second bottom of the Premier League without a victory under the former head coach, Steve Bruce, when Staveley and the consortium she headed, along with PIF and the Reuben brothers’ RB Sports and Media, completed their protracted takeover from Mike Ashley. The club then dismissed Bruce, appointed Eddie Howe as his successor and spent £95 million in the January transfer window to sign four players on permanent deals - Kieran Trippier, Chris Wood, Bruno Guimaraes and Dan Burn - and one on loan - Matt Targett - with Staveley at the forefront of those transfers. Newcastle went on to transform their season, winning 12 of their final 18 Premier League games to finish in eleventh position. And Staveley remained a key role on the club’s transfer committee in the pursuit of the Dutch defender Sven Botman, who was eventually signed for £32 million from Lille during the current window at the start of July. Unbelievable
Great news. Can't praise enough what she and Merhdad have done over the past couple of years. Convincing the Reubens and PIF of the project, persisting despite strong opposition from the PL/so-called "big clubs", concluding the takeover and completely transforming the club in a matter of months. Aye, 100% this. I am glad we have people like Amanda and Mehrdad running the club. People that we can trust have the best interest of the club and fans at the forefront of what they do. Geordie Magpie
People understimate the size of this rebuild job. We have the foundations in place, we have signed good players so far and will continue to do so, I'm confident we will get what we need in the next couple weeks. In the short medium term, Amanda and Jamie Reuben holding their current stakes doesn't make too much of a difference. Next season we will get increased sponsorship and therefore increased spending power. Beyond after next season though, if we do have aims of challenging at the Top within 5-10 years then surely AS and JR dilute their stakes, being bought a bit out by PIF which will then further accelerate the speed of spending and growth. We are in good hands, we have spent £150m net in two windows with more spending to come. We have progressed a lot in less than a year and will continue to do so. When they took over they said be patient this is an investment and it will take hard work and time. Some fans have too much expectation because of when the takeover happened, the media over hyped it and fans starting seeing Saudi money flashing in their eyes and thinking this would be the next Man City, when in reality it isn't, FFP prevents that. City have a 14 year head start on us, it will take time to bridge that gap, spending loads of money doesn't guarantee success, look at Everton. Keep getting small wins and progressing and we will get there in time. The gold old story of the tortoise beating the hare in a race!

Dr Jinx
She’s shown herself to be anything but what the Barclays legal team were trying to portray her as. As a face of the club, both she and Mehrdad are impeccable and they just get it, whatever it is.. but they just get it. In 30 years from now she will be regarded in the same light as KK and SBR in terms of lifting the club off its knees but in the here and now, we the supporters should show her every bit of appreciation and do anything we can to protect her from the horrible shit said online about her. Tiresias
It's interesting, as was said she would step back a bit when Chief Exec was found, I guess to essentially having decision making power in line with her shareholding (which I think was mentioned at some point planned to be diminished with presumably pif buying her out and her making a tidy profit). She seems to love it so much not that surprised sticking around, the only concern would be confusing chains of command. Who gives final approval if a signing needs to be made? Is it Eales, Staverley or the PIF chairman who it was said was asked to be consulted on. Staverley has to be said seems very good at getting decisions out of a group of people considering stuff needs to go by reubans and saudi arabia... nbthree3
"Staveley tried to buy Spurs with Boehly Todd Boehly’s business links with Newcastle United’s director Amanda Staveley go back to before the pandemic when he tried to enlist her and the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF) to be part of a bid to buy Tottenham Hotspur, sources have told this column. Boehly, Chelsea’s American majority shareholder, is understood to have had advanced talks with Tottenham about buying the club along with property investor Jonathan Goldstein, and suggested that the PIF might be part of a bid. Staveley and the PIF considered both Spurs and Chelsea before deciding on Newcastle as being the best investment." Keith was right

It's easy to forget with the PIF being involved now, but she's the one who pushed for this. She was very publicly labelled a time waster by Ashley and instead of just sloping back into the shadows she came back with one of the wealthiest sovereign wealth funds in the world. I think she's class and will hopefully be seen in the same light as the Magpie Group founders in the years ahead.
