Surely this is a pisstake at this stage? There's a difference between the government and private individuals from a particular country

Not always, especially when ‘private’ individuals need the agreement of said government to invest abroad and have to sell when ordered.

Abramovich still owns Chelsea, he hasn't been kicked out, he probably has no option but to agree to the club being sold but he is still the owner for now.

Technically he's still the owner, but in reality he's not. Tuchel would certainly find it a lot easier to speak up against Russia now that Abramovich has been sanctioned and effectively thrown out of Chelsea football club. Howe is not really in the same position is he?

In reality he is still the owner, he could decide not to sell, but eventually the club would become worthless under the sanctions and potential penalties from the PL for not removing a banned director.

Yeah, Howe isn't in the same position because the owners of the club are acceptable in the eyes of the government and PL, if there are questions to be asked they should be of them rather than Howe. But Tuchel is continuing to manage a club whose owner has close ties with Putin and whose supporters continue to chant the name of, he does not deserve sympathetic press.

Can't believe this still needs to be said. Being charitable, if they're oligarchs or 'entrepreneurs' (without there being any difference in political influence) there's much less of a difference than we've been saying.

What are the odds this is going to go badly wrong, with no specific evidence of assurances or something equally shit, but was simply rushed through by the PL because of the legal fight and resolution of the Bein issue?

I’d assume the assurances where always pretty watertight, that was never the issue it was always about piracy. They just used it as a reason to delay it.

I'm sure from a legal standpoint you are right, but Tuchel knows that Abramovich is in position to sanction him if he says something the Russian doesn't like. In reality, Tuchel's own future as a boss in England would be more at risk if he turned a blind eye.

Howe's situation is very different in that he is working for owners who are present and fully empowered to react negatively to any perceived criticism.

I’d say the assurances amount to whatever the PL would have had to pay out in compensation.

As if after 2 years or whatever they just had a eureka moment and came up with wording that made everyone happy…

Didn’t know where to put this…but thought our takeover thread probably appropriate.

RE Chelsea sale.

Premier League chief executive Richard Masters said earlier this month: "The quickest one [sale of a club] we've done is 10 days, but that's not to say it can't be beaten.

"Normally it's a matter of weeks but it depends on the complexities and the number of potential owners."

Just goes to show how “The supposed big 6” run this league…….Newcastle sale, 2 years……Chelsea inside 10 days….you just couldn’t make it up could you!

Newcastle and Southampton head a new group of Premier League clubs looking to create a multi-club model to mirror Manchester City’s all-conquering City Football Group.

Southampton, now under the ownership of Sport Republic, are actively exploring the market to buy stakes in other clubs but arguably the most intriguing possibility is Newcastle’s PIF-led consortium creating their own version of the City operation.

It is understood that PIF want a global presence in football and other sports to follow from their Premier League investment. The Magpies are at the very early stages of a complete overhaul of club operations, with a director of football and CEO both set to be appointed soon alongside sizeable investment in infrastructure, the academy and the stadium.

The initial ambition is to transform Newcastle into a club capable of challenging in the Premier League, but in the medium- to long-term the Saudis want to create a portfolio of clubs which is led by the Magpies in a similar way to Manchester City.
