Then he said that fella from Bournemouth who got a team relegated.

That's exactly what he told the owners when they asked him who to go for.;)

This is the lineup for the next Tottenham manager. You’d assume we’d be fishing in the same stream these days unless Mitchell has other ideas. Pochettino and Mourinho wouldn’t be anywhere near as long for us obviously.

Brendan Rodgers 5/2

Erik Ten Hag 8/1

Thomas Frank 8/1

Graham Potter 10/1

Gareth Southgate 12/1

Marco Silva 12/1

Andoni Iraola 14/1

Kieran McKenna 14/1

Michael Carrick 14/1

Roberto De Zerbi 14/1

Xavi 14/1

Diego Simeone 16/1

Eddie Howe 16/1

Julian Nagelsmann 16/1

Max Allegri 18/1

Maurizio Sarri 20/1

Michel 20/1

Lee Carsley 22/1

David Moyes 25/1

Mauricio Pochettino 25/1

I reckon Poch could go back to Spurs, i read somewhere that he's actually good mates with Levy and used to go on holiday with him.

Very little to get excited about on that list. Agree we would be looking in similar places or taking a punt on a candidate with less name recognition.

 how mental is it that Ten Hag is second favourite. Premier League just loves recycling managers.

He shouldnt be given a substantial amount of money in January tbh. Not because I dont trust him, but because we need to have money for new signings available to entice a top place manager to come if Eddie doesnt fix what is clearly broken.

The whole reason we've brought in someone like Mitchell is so that we have consistency and follow a certain philosophy in recruitment so we don't need to do a squad re-build whenever a new manager joins, so if there's a deal to be made in January for a player that would strengthen our starting 11 in a position we should strengthen, we shouldn't hold off in case we decide to change manager further down the line.

That being said I have no desire for us to change manager. Not even a bottom half finish would change that for me.

If this is indeed the philosophy it's the correct one and what we should be doing. The amount of power Eddie has wielded makes me skeptical mind.

Probably need to let Howe know that - I get the distinct impression that Howe wants final say on all transfers.

What an absolutely uninspiring list of managers that is.

If there’s going to be an effort to really improve the squad, especially in Jan, and show everyone that the project is still alive, I would rather Howe gets a chance to lead it.

Someone said a few pages back that we would get a bounce from a new manager, but I don’t really want to get onto that rollercoaster unless absolutely necessary.

I’d like him to add a couple of new coaches as well if possible, our setup does seem a bit basic at times.

This is just it. For clubs with desires on the Champions League places and/or silverware, the pool of managers that are both appealing and attainable seems incredibly small. That's why you get the likes of Chelsea changing managers like they're underwear; Man Utd sticking with Ten Hag longer than they wanted; Spurs lurching from one bad fit to another.

I hope we give Howe time and resources to have a better second half to the season regardless, but I'm really dubious we could actually improve on him.

Shearer raised the point of the pressing, I almost forgot we did that. Last season there was the excuse that we were too tired to do that cos of the CL and injuries. I bought that. But what’s the reason now??

You know I’m starting to think that a lot of this season’s weird form is fitness related. The weird team selections, not being able to string together a consistent run of performances. Mainly though it’s that we tend to get worse as the game goes on. At our peak under EH the team has excelled in the last 30 mins as other teams have tired and we’ve stayed at peak performance. I wonder what is going on behind the scenes and whether the training activity has changed.

Agree with this. It's going to mean selling one of our so called purple players, but we really need a refresh so it'll have to happen.

I think a lot of people (not just our fans) are still in that mindset of thinking a manager change is the nearest thing to a silver bullet a club can do. Not that it isn't important, but there are imo clearly situations where managers are undoubtedly quality but something else is bottlenecking the club and a manager change will do nothing except freshen things up short-term or appease fans.
