He almost certainly won't leave. He was just doing a bit of politicking.

Agreed. And I don't see why you'd bother politicking, if that's what it was, unless you wanted it to work.

Am assuming the many overreactions have passed you by. Some are comical and would be rightly mocked if they appeared on rtg

Well I just skim over quite a few replies tbf.

Once a team is full of elite players the manager is less important. Real Madrid, PSG and Chelsea until recently regularly changed managers and continued to be very successful. For a few years Real Madrid seemed to win the CL every year under a different manager!

At NUFC Howe has turned average players into good players and good ones into very good. We still need Howe as we do not have a squad of quality players. But as the squad improves the manager is less important. Hence putting in place the executive level management structure we are seeing now. We still need Howe to do his magic for a while yet though.

For the record the last 6 RM CLs have come from 2 managers. Zidane and Ancelotti.
Barca’s 5 CLs have come from 4 different managers. Cruyff, Rijkaard, Guardiola and Enrique.

Injuries were a huge concern last season and yet fully fit younger players barely played. You would think the fitness guru will be looking at training and how many minutes players are playing and have some influence or else what is the point.

They are….

doesnt mean they’re listened to

Re: Howe

The only thing I’m confident of is PIF view last season as a failure and have instituted strategic changes. Seems Eddie might not love some lf those changes or at least it hasn’t been clearly communicated to him.

Im hoping it’s a storm in a tea cup.

Fuck knows what PIF are thinking.

Eales is reasonable for the major decisions at the club. These will be his hires, with final sign-off from the board.

I agree, although they were fine margins, I think any sort of European qualification would have been seen as a success last season given the adversity we faced through injuries and suspensions. But the converse is also true, failing to get into Europe after playing CL will have been a big disappointment. We didn't have a squad capable of managing it, and we have to make sure that doesn't happen again.

I don't think they'd have made any changes if Ashworth hadn't been headhunted, like. Think it's been forced upon us but I think we'll be better for it.

Are NUFC.com hinting that if Howe doesn't have the squad he wants by the time the window closes on 2nd Sept, he'll be in the dugout for England on 7th Sep ?

Most likely are, but when they dip into it, they probably just want high level and reasons why. “UCL then no Europe. What’s happened? Who’s to blame”.

Could argue Ashworth going, with AS/MG and bringing in Mitchell/Bunce, gives everyone some breathing space going into new season, but I’d be very surprised if there’s not serious pressure all through the structure from Howe upwards to deliver step forward this season, otherwise changes will be made, and that’s usually a case of manager.

It's from The Times and it's complete conjecture.

Howe played knackered and injured players even though everyone could see that some of them could barely move. Would be interesting to know how much influence the medical staff had on some of the decisions.

Reckon Bunce will come in to address that.

Whatever Howe is doing, I hope it’s soon so we can move on (or rather continue as we are) and prepare for next season.

A big signing soon would lift spirits and change the topic of conversation.

First of all the talk of Howe being consulted before a new sporting director was appointed is strange, he should not dictate who his new boss is.

Other than that it’s not strange that there is a small power struggle when a new “middle” manager role is filled.

i am 100% sure it will be solved, as its for the benefit for both parties.

I don't think anyone has issues, but it has introduced a tiny element of doubt, so I can totally understand why people might express that.

You mean people on here focus on the 1% doubt and not the 99% - the part where he said the words “absolutely committed” several times?

Nah I think you’re wrong mate, people on here don’t do that.

Pretty obvious that he'd take his staff to the training ground to announce his resignation to them.

Howe and Mitchell had an arm wrestle to decide who would get final say on transfers.

Tonali had a grand on Howe at 6/4

More like when you had a fight at school and it was always “meet you after school at the gates”
