If that does happen then the people in charge are completely clueless. What targets should we meet considering where we were and how much has been invested? From an investment point of view we are where we deserve to be.

Not disputing that. They will have an agenda that might not fit with what’s happening at the minute. Someone on here said that Staveley leaving could be the new Chris Mort moment. They might be right.

The most concerning thing is, and the stats back this up massively - we just play like a poorly coached team. Night and day from the ultra well drilled press we used to know, it’s just all gone very wrong somewhere. There are few encouraging signs that a tweak here or there could have things clicking again, I just don’t see how the current squad we have is capable of deploying the system we are going for.

I wonder if Howe starting coaching the side in pre season with this possession based style expecting to have a Guehi in by the end of window, so he’d have two platforms to play off of (Guehi/Bruno).. and then obviously it didn’t happen but he’s stuck to his guns and not reverted system. If so it’s even more of a fuck up than it seemed at first.

The thing with Howe imo is that he seems exactly the type of manager to review, tweak and improve his systems and playstyle, he seems very intelligent, thoughtful and intentional, imagine having a chat with him, asking him about if he'd consider something different as evidence is showing something not working

And him just saying 'no'. Just doesn't add up

Never made sense to me, people talking about him like he’s Bruce.

Our away from over the last 12 months doesn’t suggest this though.

I thought the central point was that "Tindall clearly doesn’t have a clue," and is a "lower league wind up merchant, not someone who should be remotely responsible for anything tactical."

Weird how these people are befitting of these labels now, whilst we've hit some ropey form, not when we were enjoying two of the best seasons in recent memory.

Ropey? It was pretty much unanimous across the board we needed to start this season very well. We’ve been mostly an awful disorganised mess and you know it.

Were the coaching staff incompetent imbeciles when we were one of the very best sides in the country and taking points off Europe's best in the CL?

 I can see Ronaldo's posting has ten folded in the last few weeks, wonder why

Eddie Howe, a man everyone describes as a workaholic and someone who focuses on intricate detail has hired someone to be his number 2 who can only wind up opposition - right.

There is one thing to be upset about the performances and the results, but to name call Tindall or any of our coaches for that matter... is going way too far.

The absolute disrespect to the coaching team that have given us some of the best times in the last 20 or so years is honestly disgusting.  Lower league wind up merchant ffs.

I love Eddie, not disputing he’s a workaholic but the set pieces are a joke and we’re way behind the clubs who actually use a specialist for them. We can’t just keep ignoring it and hoping it gets better when there’s very little to suggest it will without massive change.

The average/mean quality of coaching in the PL has increased exponentially over the last 5 years.

The division doesn’t have many Steve Bruce’s anymore.

Removing the promoted sides - who are the worst 3 managers? I’d argue someone that managed Real Madrid and Spain in the last 10 years, maybe Dyche, O’Neil, Glasner, Maresca perhaps. It’s a far cry from yesteryear. These are all decent coaches and fairly tactically astute.

I always thought Eddie’s strengths was motivating players, giving them confidence, and putting them in positions to succeed. We don’t look a super motivated team either.

Ah but you're forgetting Eddie's turned shit, doesn't do tactics, won't sell players to clubs that don't even want them and......checks notes......can't motivate the players anymore.

I think the jump in results and performances from when Howe took over to our stellar season seems largely based on physicality. We were so fit and our players had that underdog mentality and they bought into the notion that we could overrun teams. It largely worked and they derived a lot of confidence from it. We could force and pressure players to f**k up and we’d be there, all over them like a rash getting in good positions with their defences all over the place and we’d get good opportunities. Wilson was in good form and we did well.

It was a tremendous effort though for the players to completely empty the tank week after week.

I was expecting us to use that confidence to develop a style that was sustainable (because flogging your players each and every week is not). It looked like there may have been the green shoots of a stylistic change at the start of last season. Specifically post the 1st Milan game. For whatever reason it didn't seem to stick and I think the mentality of players like Bruno, Gordon and Isak feels reluctant to run themselves to the point of injury again. The style of the squad has not progressed into something yet workable. It will need to or the top players are going to start thinking about playing elsewhere.
At the same time we’ve not built a squad that Howe is comfortable interchanging and we’re in a limbo. Not really effective at anything right now. Not enough ballers to keep the ball and not enough runners to keep everyone fresh.

We’ve had some ropey runs in the past and subsequently put in some excellent performances so we’ve been here before. Obvs hope this time is like last time.

Howe was asked why Newcastle are struggling to score from corners this season: "I think we've had a lot of chances. I hate to use xG, but our xG from set plays isn't too bad. It's competitive, we should have scored at least one. We are missing a few key corner takers, and missing a bit of the height and strength we've had previously. We will have to evolve again."

When 6 of Tonali's 11 assists for Milan in his final season there come from set pieces I've no idea why he hardly ever seems to take them. Remember him only taking 2, one at the end at Fulham and one against Man City.

Aye, I don’t understand the Tonali set piece thing, maybe he has another role at set pieces which means he’s not considered for taking them.

Whatever it is, it isn’t working. Surely he’s got to be worth a go. We can’t get worse at them.

Why Do the press let him get away with answers like that man?

Tonali is our specialist setpiece taker in the squad yet howe has Gordon Trippier Longstaff taking them.

Before we bought tonali fair enough but now he should be our mainstay on them.

It's like having beckham in your team and letting Luke chadwick and Gary neville take them.
