If there’s going to be an effort to really improve the squad, especially in Jan, and show everyone that the project is still alive, I would rather Howe gets a chance to lead it.

Someone said a few pages back that we would get a bounce from a new manager, but I don’t really want to get onto that rollercoaster unless absolutely necessary.

I’d like him to add a couple of new coaches as well if possible, our setup does seem a bit basic at times.

What an absolutely uninspiring list of managers that is.

This is just it. For clubs with desires on the Champions League places and/or silverware, the pool of managers that are both appealing and attainable seems incredibly small. That's why you get the likes of Chelsea changing managers like they're underwear; Man Utd sticking with Ten Hag longer than they wanted; Spurs lurching from one bad fit to another.

I hope we give Howe time and resources to have a better second half to the season regardless, but I'm really dubious we could actually improve on him.

Shearer raised the point of the pressing, I almost forgot we did that. Last season there was the excuse that we were too tired to do that cos of the CL and injuries. I bought that. But what’s the reason now??

You know I’m starting to think that a lot of this season’s weird form is fitness related. The weird team selections, not being able to string together a consistent run of performances. Mainly though it’s that we tend to get worse as the game goes on. At our peak under EH the team has excelled in the last 30 mins as other teams have tired and we’ve stayed at peak performance. I wonder what is going on behind the scenes and whether the training activity has changed.

Agree with this. It's going to mean selling one of our so called purple players, but we really need a refresh so it'll have to happen.

I think a lot of people (not just our fans) are still in that mindset of thinking a manager change is the nearest thing to a silver bullet a club can do. Not that it isn't important, but there are imo clearly situations where managers are undoubtedly quality but something else is bottlenecking the club and a manager change will do nothing except freshen things up short-term or appease fans.

Sorry like, I can’t be chewed with the ‘have you all forgot you hypocrites’ vibe of those types of posts.

I never liked the sentiment.

Don’t like the sentiment of wanting the club you support to try to win, got it. ‘Desperately pathetic’ [emoji38]

In the context at the time, that banner was spot on. The context being we were still being mocked as deluded geordies while witnessing all ambition being systematically stripped from the club over the course of 14 years.

It still holds water, in the sense we want the club to be striving to improve within whatever constraints they're forced to operate in.

To call it "desperately pathetic" is unbelievable stuff @TheBrownBottle What would be on your banner? What were you doing at the time to get Ashley out?

You'd think Frank will move on from Brentford shortly.

Also don't half wish Southgate and fucking Potter wouldn't be mentioned with every job available. Pair of beige twats.

Yeah but is that the reason.

Was the continuous pressing the cause of all the injuries and they can’t afford to press continuously knowing doing so will result in those injuries.

If Bunce is telling Howe to start Longstaff instead of Tonali then he needs to be ignored TBH. Our need for performances and points is greater than the need to protect to the players at the moment.

Who knows.

If Howe is able to buy a player or two in january he won't really have any excuses not to finish in europe this season. We have to get some clean sheets and I want him to start Kelly in for Burn.
