McCormick
Takes bravery in the press to execute against City. We’re losing one on ones and not showing any intensity. Not sure that’s Howe’s Fault. We look a team that’s distracted/ phoning it in.

How could I have came on after knocking Arsenal out of the cup and said that? Let’s face it, Top 4 finish aside, we have chicken every big game we have faced against the top 6 teams. Lost the cup final to an average Man Utd team who fluked their way into the top 4. Beat them in games afterwards, but lost to a poor Man Utd team when a result for us would have got us into Europe and it was between us and them for the last place. Got beat off a poor performing Chelsea side in the league cup quarter final last season. Expand We beat that Chelsea team for 90 minutes with players running on fumes. An individual error cost us. We also just beat Arsenal handily in a two legged semifinal. That spoils your narrative a bit though.

Heron
It's rubbish that we don't do it in big games. Andy
If anything, our problem more often than not is that we only do it in big games. However, today just felt like we didn't want it or believe we could get anything from the very first minute. The latter of which is bizarre considering how poor this City team have been at times this season. It's difficult to really understand what our plan was today. Bellis80
Apart from Arsenal away I can’t remember any big away game we’ve played well in (PSG was a gutsy effort but they had a million chances before the penalty). More that if anything, Stifler’s point is wide of the mark as it is more like the other way round. We perform when it matters in a lot of crunch games and the perhaps there is the dreaded ‘after the Lord Mayor’s show performance. Or of course, just general variance. I do think this season has been very odd all round. Mad runs of good form, some games where we were unlucky to lose, some games where we deserved fuck all and won. We still feel a bit inconsistent somehow and not sure which team is turning up week to week. I’m sure most fans say the same about their team and the way the league is from 3rd to 9th-10th. A lot of teams are struggling for form, it would seem.

There’s big games like today, then there’s big games like Cup Finals and end of season games to achieve something. We’ve been pretty poor in a lot of the big games for me. Milan (h), Man Utd at Wembley, Man Utd (a) last season, draw with Leicester in a frightened performance to qualify for the CL which thankfully was just enough. You can point at a few outliers like Arsenal a couple weeks back, but I still think there’s a concern about the mentality in the big games.
