Their goals came from dazed Schar & out of character hit from Rashford. People going on like we were hammered. They bossed midfield, where I thought they were simply a cut above us. A draw would have been fair on the night. We win with a bedded in Wissa though (ffs).

Rashfords scored loads of screamers there's no chance that was out of character.

Chelsea fans not happy, but people beginning to see how good Eddie really is

It’s a bit bizarre really because at the end of last season they were much better with 10 than 11 against us.

Two points off Amorim despite Man United having played Arsenal, City and Chelsea.

Serious questions need asked if there's a poor result today.

Agreed. First serious question should be "why don't you watch your players taking penalties you fraud"?

Not sure there’s a tremendous amount of analysis needed beyond Isak + the Wissa injury (and the Gordon red) has cost us points to start the season. How many we’ll never know.

Good to see the amount of rotation and the defensive solidity.

At the start of the season you would have taken a point at Bournemouth away. But Leeds draw and after the red card Villa draw hurt us. But that was because of the striker situation.

We didn't create enough, but Bournemouth really had no chances either.

Howe has clearly learnt from our last European comp. A draw away at Bournemouth with different players and formation. Can't complain about injuries, lack of rotation and tactical inflexibility anymore. :tongue3:

Two lenses you can put on things really.

Four clean sheets in five in the league. Look solid in most games and even 2/3 the goals against Liverpool were a bit unlucky with deflections/ricochets. Woltemade looking promising in transit, team still gelling, he's got the base right and the goals will come. Wissa, Gordon & Ramsey to come back into it. Pope, Tonali and Burn playing out of their skin. Looked decent against a very good Barca side.

1 win in 8 going back to last season. Loads of players - Barnes, Gordon, Willock, Joelinton, arguably Bruno - look horribly out of form. We haven't scored in 5 of our last 7 league games. Elanga looks a poor signing on early evidence. Barely threatened the opposition keeper away from home all season. The squad doesn't look equipped to deal with the fixture list as they'll either be tired, or we're forced to play far inferior players.

In my view, probably a little from Column A and a little from Column B. The lateness of our transfer business means the work Eddie would have done in pre-season with the newer lads if we'd acted early as he asked is still happening now. The Wissa injury and stupidity of Gordon have left him in a difficult position. However, he doesn't seem to know what to do with Elanga and we aren't creating much. We seem to empty the tank in the bigger games and look poor the game after.

After last season I've got faith it'll come together and that we'll start looking better and winning games. It's just a bit tough to watch these low quality away games where we don't look interested in trying to score.

The commentators I had mentioned that how we play away from home is so different than at home.

Honestly if we want to be a real top team we need to take a lot more control of things away from home. A point today is fine isolated. But not when you combine with other two 0-0s. We are just too defensive both in setup and mentality and I’d much rather take a loss and a win than two draws, which I’m sure most would agree on.

Yes we missed a striker but Leeds and this match the whole team has been under par and can’t really blame that on a striker.

Of course I’m sure Eddie will turn it around but a bit tired of having to play catch up from poor starts every season. Another thing a top team doesn’t have.

We played Bournemouth away after a Champions League game two seasons

back, last time Eddie only made 2 changes, and we lost 2-0 being comfortably outplayed. This time we made 7 and got a very solid point.

Some clear evolution, and lessons being learnt. Its all you can ask for.

Europe of some form at this stage. Not qualifying for Europe would be a disaster.

I do feel for him. After treading water to get 5th it should have been the summer to consolidate that place up there by spending what we’d saved / sold for 2 years. Instead he has to find yet another solution and with players that didn’t make his first or second round picks.

On the other hand, I’d question why we still have nothing approaching a playmaker in the squad. Potentially the signing of Elanga too, who looks horribly unsuited to our play when we’re condensing it in the opponent’s half.

I agree. But clearly it’s been decided to go for certain types of players and not ones you normally associate with top teams. Especially in the midfield and wide positions.

Can’t help but feeling Eddie has gone a bit too far the Simeone way after he spent time with him before joining us. We need the Newcastle way sprinkled with some Simeone and happily take more losses if it means more wins too.

Personally my expectations are low, but Eddie and the clubs ambitions and expectations has to be at least top 6. It’s going to be tight though. I don’t see us getting as close to finish 2nd as last year that’s for sure.
