Look at our defensive line before and after they scored. We definitely dropped deeper from around 80 minutes, it was noticeable from our own goal kicks. We do it every week.

Step back for one second and it's a decent result and a decent performance. Could have got more but we are in a good spot.

People are allowed to be angry and frustrated when we constantly concede late goals, can’t keep a lead and leave players on the pitch when out on their feet. 
 

Would I have taken a point before ko. 100% but that doesn’t mean I’m not pissed off about some of our issues and inconsistencies.

There’s definitely a sense of frustration among the fans right now with both the current approach and the in-game decisions. We all know Eddie will stick with his methods, but sitting back just isn’t our strength. And the long throws are a mess as well — no idea what’s going on there, they’re barely even reaching the six-yard box.

We're obviously far from perfect this season and, presently, we are the worst of his teams at least since the start of 22/23.

 

But I'll offer a glass-half-full take and say I think there's a lot to be optimistic about when you look at our games up to now. It's objectively a very good thing that we're so capable of finding the lead anywhere. If we can learn how to capitalise on a lead (looking at our new number 9 here, and hopefully Elanga continuing to improve), then we'll be onto a very good thing.

 

I'll say till I'm blue in the face that the biggest reason (not the only) for these late equalisers is the lack of goals, not the lack of defensive solidity.

A collective lack of ruthlessness in front of goal (some it is bad luck, hitting the post multiple times) in tight games is absolutely costing us and we have to hope Wissa will make the difference because there is still a lot to look forward to this season if we get a settled side in a rythmn.

We were just as bad in 23-24, but with little hope of improving much until January of 24 because of fatigue.

 

We were absolutely dog shit until December last season, and that was with six fewer games. Even with our relatively good start in points, we looked awful apart from the Forest comeback.

My argument is that if we go 3-1 up tonight and against Spurs then we probably don't even concede a second.

I’d say the opposite and that we look less composed defensively than we previously have. First half was a prime example as they cut us open numerous times. We need Botman back and to his best to give poor Burn a rest.

Anyway good performance but Eddie needs to learn to use subs to help the team keep energy levels high.

100% agree. 2022/23 we were fantastic defensively but there's absolutely zero chance we have that record if all our scorelines were 1-0 and 2-1. We regularly put the opposition to the sword and then the game is just over. We did it to USG and Everton. We were inches from it today.

I think some of it is certain football orthodoxy ingrained into them. But on the other hand, some in here would use all the subs at halftime if it hasn’t gone quite right. It takes some nerve to not pull the trigger when you’re down, believing that your game plan may still work.

anyway it’s a serious problem that we can’t hold onto 2-1 leads late, whether it’s not seeing it out or finishing the teams off. We frankly should be capable of both.
