Think if we fail to get Europe, and don’t win a trophy this season, that’ll be the end of him, and hard to argue against that.

The importance of European football cannot be underplayed, it’s crucial to having a chance in keeping your Tinos, Sandros and Brunos.

We struggled to sign players with CL, no Europe at all and our summer recruitment will be very difficult.

Our best transfer windows have been without Europe tbf. Get the point you are making mind.

It was an awful game where fuck all was created by both sides and lost with a freak OG.

We were shit and they just about beat us. “Absolutely out thought tactically” come on man. This was hardly us getting pumped under Bruce and Pardew 3-0 every other week that had any sort of basic set up.

In fairness, with the players we have, if we had the ball like they did for 45 we would’ve created good chances. So it’s fair to say he was out thought tactically first half, because what did we change to try and get hold of the ball? We just got deeper and got more desperate. Was only Sunderland having meh attackers that kept it 0-0, nothing to do with how we were tactically, which was a mess.

yeah but if Sunderland put our road cones, it would've probably have ended in a draw. Don't think he was outfoxed at all. He basically handed the win to them.

Watched his press conference and fuck knows what anyone's whinging about with that. Anyone going after him for anything he's specifically said there is just searching for a punching bag.

Not that it matters - but purely in the context of discussing people's reactions to his comments - he apologised, took accountability and was one step shy of calling his team a bag of shite. Nothing to see there, people can go back to criticising the things that should be criticised.

If anything, it seems like Howe went overly tactical with the approach [emoji38]

Still find it very weird he took Woltemade off for that last part. Yes, he wasn't playing well, but he's a bloody massive target that attracts bodies in the box when we were evidently going to start chucking it in. It would've been far more helpful for Wissa too, rather than battling with 2 lads who are about a foot taller than him.

I love Howe, but starting Elanga and benching Barnes was a bit strange, especially cos we didn't really have a game plan. I thought we were weak as piss today, and I thought they were equally as shite. Should have went for them from the off. A lot of poor performances.

Yeah we needed a goal so should have had both forwards on.

They 100% were. What helped them, although it didn't at all decide the game, was intensity. If we displayed that same intensity the result likely would have been different.

Wolte and Wissa will play together… people still keep telling themselves.

Would mean changing formation, which he will never do unless it’s to accommodate an extra centre half

Howes a disgrace!

Been here for 4 years. Saved us from certain relegation. Got in the CL twice and ended our long trophy drought.

But we keep losing away, so Howe out?

🤣

I'm 60% there, sentiments mean little to me

I would have went after them from the off. They have no style of play at all. Should have been up their arses (oo err) from the first whistle.

Our set up was awful today and the changes were unimaginative/ more of the same (albeit both Murphy and Barnes should have started).

Nick was isolated up top, I’d have brought Wissa on much earlier, moved Nick to a 10 and asked him to be the link to the wide men and Wissa. We needed to pull their defence a bit further up the field and get in behind them from wide areas or through the middle by using a 10 to mess their shape.

It’s very easy to criticise after the event but it was painfully obvious that what we were doing wasn’t going to be the answer.

The players look knackered though. We’ve got lots of games but a bigger squad, some players (Wolte, Tino etc.) haven’t been able to be rested. We’d all love them to be pressing the life out of the opposition, pinning them in their own half and forcing mistakes but the players don’t look up to it. A lot of the goals conceded in the last 5-10 mins are due to very tired players not following a man or switching off mentally. No idea what the answer is, a bigger squad again? What’s Bunce and the team been up to?

‘We weren’t good enough to open them up’

Hardly a one off this season and if any of the local journalists have the bottle they should be asking him why that is after his summer outlay.

My main issue here is - I've heard and agreed with so many fans on here since June, wondering why we don't buy more technical players, who can open teams up.

Elanga is not that and Ramsey neither. I'd say our most technical visionary footballers right now are Bruno, Hall and Thaiw. Not sure many others see a clever pass or can play a non obvious through ball, that might open a team up without hypnotising them to death with triangles and inverted overlaps in the corner.

We never opened teams up, we battered down their doors. Now we knock gently and go home when no one answers. What is our/Howes identity right now?

He was like. Set his team up to namby-pamby around the pitch and let them win the ball and it saw us bullied out of the game by a far inferior team set up to challenge and frighten us. It worked.  A performance up there with the shite served up by pardew and Bruce for me.

After todays loss is he under pressure?

He should be. We've been poor all season, as our league position shows, and going down there and not turning up is inexcusable.

The £150m outlay on Elanga, Wissa, and Ramsey so far looks like money  down the drain as well.

If Fulham knock us out the League Cup on Wednesday night the knives will be getting sharpened, especially if it's yet another meek and pathetic showing.

He spent £250m in the summer and the team looks much worse.

You went through Souness, Ashley, Carver, Pardew, Bruce etc and are still here, yet some idiots wanting Howe out is the straw that broke the camel's back... Really?

I get it.

Modern football has very few redeeming features, I find myself watching less of it by the year.

Even looking inwards, we're an instrument of soft power for a foreign state, its pretty depressing.

First Staveley and now Howe have given it a human face and made it bareable. In fact, Eddie has done more than that, he's given us some of our very best memories as football fans.

Howe isn't bigger than the club and life will go on after him, but it's just one less emotional tie and one that could easily be the straw that breaks the camel's back. He's currently in real danger of becoming a victim of his own success.

See bit in bold. I'm talking directly about people whinging about his comments. I agree that it's all meaningless, that's broadly my point.
