OoOGazOoO
I think some criticism is fair. It doesn't have to be: We LOVE Howe Or Howe Out Being somewhere on the scale is fine and should be accepted. This season, unfortunately, we have played very average more times than we have played well, and our away form especially is a huge worry. I absolutely believe it is fine to point the finger at things which seem to have a constant pattern: Gordon on the left instead of Barnes Subs too late to affect the game Lack of ideas going forward Summer transfer business In my opinion, no one can look at those above 4 things and tell me or others that the criticism there isn't justified, it absolutely is. Does that mean that I want Howe out? Crikey no! Does that mean that today was another horrendous, abject away performance, this time against a very poor team who have been horrific for the majority of the season to date - 100% yes, and we need to be so, so, so much better. Sibierski
Regular theme really, no-one in the pockets. Striker needing to either drop deep into CM or have two CBs mark them. Alright if it's Haaland stuff, because they then have two players positioned in those spaces, we seemingly do neither. Don't know why we can't just push one of the CMs up like Joelinton was against Bilbao at home and in general in seasons gone by. Wingers hugging the touchline doesn't help either. When Elanga was on, he was popping up loads next to Wissa in middle, which is an improvement, but it then meant no wide option and still no-one on edge of box wanting it into feet on half turn. Simple to defend against.
Whitley mag
Needs to alternate between Joe and Tonali in midfield. We are devoid of any creativity, or someone breaking into the box to support the striker (this should be Ramsey’s role). Needs a creative midfielder and a winger who can dribble past people in the summer.

Best post on this thread. Totally true. You can also add lack of rotation and then bemoaning tiredness and injuries to that list.
ryanegg
1 hour ago, joeyt said: It's basically Tonali/Bruno Bruno/Tonali Joelinton Winger Winger Striker So there's a huge gap in the middle where none of our midfielders get to and Woltemade comes deep to fill that gap. Was the same when Isak was here, just he had the pace to beat his man rather than drop deep. I think it would have made sense to put Wissa up front and Woltemade in the 10 today. AyeDubbleYoo
I think 2 deeper midfielders and one advanced would help in both ways. We need a way to draw opposition CMs forward so we can hit the spaces behind them. TBF though, all of our CMs got on the end of attacking balls in the box today. Dan Gleebals
One of the biggest issues for me is our summer business, overall it has not had the impact anyone would have hoped for (surely Howe included). I'm not labeling specific players, but overall, it was a bad summer and if anything, relatively speaking, we stood still at best. Even if he wanted to, he has not been able to develop our style of play as the players he bought are not up to it. The Isak situation completely fucked our planning, and system for me. We have not adapted since. Add in the CL and cup runs, we are a squad running on a tight rope, with not enough quality on the bench (or form) in the squad to address it. Yes there are many frustrations you can add in (reliance on out of form players, poor subs etc) but with limited time between games, he does not seem to have the capacity or time (and perhaps the desire) to work on new ideas. I don't see us addressing this in January due to PSR. On the plus side we could still finish in a decent position, CL still in play and in till in both cups. He has the season for me but he would need a very big think about what we look like next season, and have get the right players to make that happen. Should that fail, then perhaps its time to look at a new manager, and more experienced one when it comes to Europe etc.
AyeDubbleYoo
I’d like to see some comparisons to other teams for that graph. Surely that area right in front of the goal is always where the fewest straight passes go.
Gallowgate Toon
Really wish he'd mix it up in the last 30 of these games, like. Appreciate it's hard with the stupid amount of football we have so we have to preserve players more but it's annoying to watch. He clearly didn't think it was worth risking losing control today with a more aggressive shape. Unfortunately, that feels very Arteta to me.
Kid Icarus
Every passing chart looks like that with much fewer passes in that 10 position. You can't expect to see even anywhere near as many passes there as you would elsewhere on the pitch. Edited January 18 by Kid Icarus

We could do with CL football again next season to fund the rebuild needed. I think we need a keeper, CB, fullback, creative midfielder, winger and striker. Massive summer ahead and will tell us a lot about the direction of travel. Edited January 18 by Whitley mag
AJ9
3 hours ago, Big Geordie said: Man City, Arsenal, Liverpool and Villa seem to manage 3 games a week - so why can't we? Same thing happened last time we were in the CL too. 3 of those are completely irrelevant comparisons as they’ve had financial advantage over us, and have a squad full of technically gifted players to manage the demands. Arguably Villa do too, and are playing in a much less competitive European competition, and haven’t progressed in the league cup. They also don’t lose their star striker in the summer and have a pretty settled executive team, we’ve also been here before, and had less productive seasons. It happens. I do wonder which competition we should have chucked this year to focus on the league? Edited January 18 by AJ9

Suprised Emery didn't get much grief, didn't have the credit of a trophy in the bank either.
