That’s interesting. I wonder if there will be some behind the scenes agreement of prioritising competitions between manager and higher ups and Saudi. So you're saying we're winning the CL then? 😏

I know Eddie made that comment that he purposely changed the game plan for the prem game against Liverpool ahead of the final so they wouldn’t be prepared for how we could really play. He was careful to state he dint ‘throw’ the prem game. But his priority was winning the cup final not the prem game and tactics and dark arts as they say were used. these things are never straight forward and I can see the logic of prioritising some games over others, but also understand you should put your best forward in every scenario. Displayname
I'd certainly downprioritize City away next weekend. Depending on how the first game goes I guess. Getting to the CL knockout stage is so important. Edited February 15 by Displayname

Ellis H
If we wallop Qarabag we can "rotate" in the second leg, though we are rotating a lot anyway so I don't know how much more we can even do.

All I know is, if you're into sport at any level then winning the next game is the priority. Aye your right about Howe and the tactics against Liverpool, but I'm certain those tactics would have been to win both games. Football is simple really. Put out your best team and win the game

SteV
I think he is our first manager to make R5 of the FA Cup in three consecutive seasons since Frank Watt (1908/09, 1909/10, 1910/11). Anybody see anyone I’ve missed?

Seymour and Livingstone?

Looks like Livingstone’s reign came to an end in Jan 56, so presumably there was a R4 game between then and the R5 game in March.
alexf
It's tricky though isn't it. Since we don't have a strong academy and/or Eddie doesn't trust them. Surely we can't keep playing Trippier every 2/3 days until Tino is back, then back to the same problem of rinsing Tino 90mins every few days til we break him again. But if we do heavily rotate after Qarabag for Man City away, since we always get thumped there anyways and they are coming into form now. Do we go as far as resting some senior players for academy players and risk an absolute walloping, which could dent confidence being built up the last few games. Or do we go with the same tired players, try to grind out a narrow loss and then hope we don't pick up anymore injuries or suffer too much the knock on fatigue for the next game. It's tricky either way and I guess just have to accept that players need to keep playing and we'll deal with the consequences of more injuries if/when they happen?
