We are 5th in the PL net spend over the last 5 years. One things for sure PIF won’t have been expecting a bottom half finish after spending a quarter of a billion in the summer.

If the worst happens and it’s 4 defeats at home on the spin tomorrow, the league table is really starting to look unpalatable.

If he wins the FA Cup and finishes 12th I’m sure we’ll all be delighted, however I find that highly unlikely with the current state of this team.

I see a lot of people dismissing the importance of tomorrow night, but these results and performances can’t continue indefinitely. He needs momentum and some feel good factor to return, winning a big game like tomorrow would bring that it can’t be written off.

In no way am I saying everything is great...its not but if you take everything into account in the last few years, its not a bad position we find ourselves in as a club

To be clear, I agree - we’ve seen worse.

No, qualifying for any European competition gives that additional headroom - and increases the ‘buffer’ as a result - you’re able to spend 115% of usable income for football purposes rather than 100%.  Our income for an upper midtable finish without Europe next season will be about £380m.  A different of 15% is £57m of additional available spend.  Given that 8th is liable to be a European slot, that should be roughly a given.

I could be misunderstanding the rules but I thought teams who qualify for UEFA competitions can only spend 70% of their income versus 85% for clubs not in Europe.

So not qualifying for the Champions League obviously reduces our income for that year but we can spend a higher percentage of the income we do bring in.

You’re right, had a brain fart this morning!

Ah, yeah it’s the other way around - the rules are that teams in Europe get 85% and teams who aren’t get 70%.  It’s so that the European clubs get that extra buffer due to having extra games to deal with (that the sky six are likely beneficiaries is of course just a bit of serendipity for them …)

Are you sure? This is what the Premier League site says;

Quote

UEFA’s Squad Cost Ratio limits a club’s on-pitch spending to a maximum of 70% of its total revenue. All Premier League clubs in European competitions will still have to adhere to this limit, while clubs not competing in Europe will have a higher threshold of 85%. This is to allow clubs that do not regularly participate in European competitions to have sufficient headroom to compete for qualification for UEFA Club Competitions against incumbents who receive additional European revenues.

Tomorrow night is very important but its the PL home game after that where things could get nasty! Lose that, especially if we're out of both cups by then, and I feel large sections of the crowd will turn. The atmosphere in the stadium against Brentford and Everton at full time wasn't nice, people were arguing when leaving and some were still all the way down to the Haymarket.

As a club we should be past, 'lose to Mackems home and away and the manager goes', but the mood will change if that happens. Easy to remedy though, just smash the fuckers on the 22nd 😀

Lose to them home and away and there's not much he can do to recover. He'd need a cup win to still be here next season.

The derby will depend on other results. Lose the derby but we are still in the cups and we beat Chelsea and or Man U then all is fine. Lose all of the games up and coming and the derby and then its a different discussion.

Dokko has had consistently bad takes on Howe for ages now, best to ignore

Why don't you ask him what his reasons are then? Or, is debate not supposed to be the main focus on a forum. Be a bit boring if everyone with different opinions just ignored each other.

I think we can also take it in a more positive way: as long as Howe won that coming derby he would be safe till the end of the season.

I've been reading this board long enough, I don't need the same doom merchant takes being recycled.

The club is going through it's best period in a generation and there's a subset of people here that think that isn't good enough.  For the first time in ~20 years as a fan base we should be able to have a modicum of trust in our manager and enjoy the ride, with all the ups and downs that entails. Some people would rather not.  They can go back and watch Pardew and Bruce era highlights if they want, I'm going to enjoy a champions league knockout round match against Barcelona instead.

Up to Stab what he posts but I'm not, personally, going to "debate" with daft cunts. I'll just call them daft cunts 😂

Forums are for that kind of thing as well 😉

Eddie Howe would win the league with the Liverpool squad. The arsenal squad, the Man City squad and probably the Man U and Chelsea squads.

Eddie is suffering by being competitive. I’d take that all season compared to the shite dished up during the Ashley era (and accepted by the Ashley apologists, probably the same folk who are now calling for Eddies sacking)

I doubt the owners will see a loss to Sunderland any differently to any other loss.
